Blyth PeeWees trounce and get trounced
It was a tumultuous week for the
Blyth PeeWees, both trouncing and
being trounced before going into
tournament play on the weekend.
Blyth blasted Zurich 13-2, Nov.
18, after ending the first period in a
two-all tie. Curtis Robertson and
Derek Youngblut netted first period

Thursday, Dec. 12 is the date set
for the first annual Ethel Family
Christmas Celebration, from 7 p.m.
until 9 p.m. at the Community
Centre. Organizers are hoping to
host a night that will appeal to most
everyone and support the Salvation
Army in Wingham at the same time.

In the spirit of the season, Grey
Central School has opened its doors
as a drop off location in Huron East
for the Huron County Christmas
Bureau. Donations of food and new
clothing and toys would be
appreciated.

third with five additional goals.

Watkins (two) and Stevenson.

mount a comfortable lead. Matthew
Van Wyk notched the first goal with
assistance from Michael Van Wyk.
Caroline McDowell's pass to Chloe
Middegaal led to the second netter.
Laura Higgins tapped in the third
with help from Spencer Stevenson
and Heidi Raynard, aided by
Michael Van Wyk, put in the fourth
of the attack.
Brussels' Shawn Dale worked
hard to get the puck into the Blyth
end but went unrewarded.
Ten Pas continued to make
beautiful saves while his teammates
attempted to break through the
Blyth defence. Brock McLean had a
break away at the mid-point of the
second, but was stopped by Blyth
netminder Kennan Macdonald.
Blyth tallied the fifth goal less
than a minute later when Stevenson
bulged the twine.
Brussels was able to keep their
opponent off the board for the rest of
the contest, with scoring chances of
their own, but were unable to break
through.
Mitch Kramer played well
defensively for Brussels.
Blyth players Wesley Thompson,
Braydon Whitfield and Ryan Nesbitt
played an exciting game with many
Robertson, Blyth was down just 4-2
after two periods. However, the
squad fell apart in the third, allowing
nine goals for a 13-3 loss.
McDowell scored the single. Assists
were earned by Youngblut, Bean and
Roman Sturzenegger.
The team played in the Zurich
tournament on the weekend,
meeting Norwich in the first match
up. Down 3-0 after two, Blyth made
plays on the net while defensive
players Jenette Plaetzer, Alex Peters,
Dalton Richmond and Stevenson
kept the puck out of the Blyth
zone.

an attempt at a comeback with goals
from McDowell and Watkins, but
were topped 4-2.
The final game of the tournament
was a heartbreaker for Blyth as they
had held a 2-1 lead until 7:43 of the
third when Elma Logan tied the
game on a power play shot. Earning
the points for Blyth were Lecomte
and Stevenson with the help of
Youngblut, McDowell and
Robertson.
With a tie at the end of regulation,
the teams went to a five-player
shoot-out. They were tied 3-3 after
the first shoot-out and had to go to a
second. Blyth lost 1-0. The final
score was recorded as a 6-5 loss.
Scorers in the shoot-out were
Robertson, McDowell and Le-
comte.
