McCallum greets at Duff's service FROM WALTON 7 tables at euchre The Walton Hall board hosted their regular bi-Thursday night euchre. There were only seven tables of players and the winning pair were Effie McCall and Bernice McClinchey with 75 points. The second place team of Olive Papple and Beth Pryce had 66 points and third place had a tie with pairs Bea Stoll and Betty Hulley and Frank and Kay Baer with 64 points. The lucky lone hand winners for the night were Eileen Sellers and Les Caldwell. Euchre is every two weeks. WI meets The Walton Women's Institute met on Wednesday evening at the home of Leona McDonald. Special guest Margaret McMahon brought greetings as president of the Huron East District. The topic was Institute and was led by Marjorie Humphries with the eight members present all taking part in discussion. Plans were made for their Christmas meal and outing. Lunch was provided and served by Brenda Perrie and Marjorie. It was noted that their Institute stone has been placed in the hall for the winter. WLS news The Walton Little School toddler class spent last week working on activities related to the letter 0, circles and the colour orange. They celebrated orange day by wearing orange clothes, eating oranges for snack and painting with orange paint. The preschool— class has been enjoying stories about the Berenstain Bears and Goldilocks and the Three Bears. They planted beans and are waiting to see if they can grow beanstalks as tall as Jack's from Jack and the Beanstalk. They have also been enjoying singing silly songs like No Bananas in the Sky. Members of Duff's United Church were greeted by Dianne McCallum. For the first hymn, the organist Glenda Morrison was joined by Marie McGavin at the piano. The congregation was treated to a special musical treat for the anthem. Performing Shall We Gather at the River was Phyllis Mitchell, violin. Graeme Craig and Jim Cook, guitar, Marie McGavin, piano and Pearl McCallum, mouth organ. With the children Joan Tuchlinsky Graeme, Helen and Michael Craig spent a nice weekend in Owen Sound recently. They were visiting friends and had the opportunity to see the lighting of the Christmas lights that are called the Northern Lights of Owen Sound. Harold McCallum, Lorne Glanville, Kelly Dalton and Chris Poland have returned home from Manitoulin Island after a successful hunt with three large bucks and a small one. Pearl McCallum's mother Idella Hubley is in hospital. Edith Wey suffered a small accident and is laid up with a sprained ankle. She and Campbell __still celebrated Christmas on Saturday with daughter Debbie and granddaughter Carla. Unfortunately son Doug and family of Brandon and Dena and family of Calgary could not be here. Away to the west for a week were Lavern and Marion Godkin. They visited Marion's brother Ray and wife Elaine in Surrey and attended ceremonies for daughter Dianne, who received her PhD in nursing from the University of Alberta. They had a chance to tour around the West Edmonton Mall and attended a stage theatre production of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Emerson and Phyllis Mitchell had guests on the weekend. A voucher they had given to the plowing match was used by the Shield family from St. Thomas. They attended the Don Messer Show at the Blyth Memorial Hall. They were thrilled with the discussed what the reign of Christ means. Jesus reigns in our lives and hearts but does it by serving us. As children you can serve others in many ways by helping at home, school and church and in that way also serve God. Heidi McClure delivered the scripture reading. Joan's reflection on Where does God reside explored the idea that he resides in all. She also spoke on developing assets in our youth. She show and Mitchell hospitality. Also attending the Don Messer Show on Saturday were Leona McDonald and Gerry Clarke of Mitchell. The host was Jim Swan. Away for a long weekend were Dan, Sherry and Emma Taylor, Manny and Andrea Taylor. They went to Willimantic, Connecticut to attend the wedding of their niece Lolles. They left Thursday evening and came home Sunday, a 10-hour drive. They had a great time seeing brothers, sisters and all their cousins. There were two new trees planted at the Walton Ball Park this past week. The maples were planted in memory of Bill Shortreed by the McDonald family and in memory of Geoffrey Banks by the Indian Slopitch ball team. Their names will be added to the memorial plaque inside the building. Visiting on the weekend with Doug and Marjorie Fraser was daughter Dianne from Kitchener. Also visiting from London was Sister Teresa Ryan with brothers Nelson, Jack, Jim and Gerry and families. Walton-area residents will be pleased to hear of. the success of Andrea Gingerich, Viola Travis's granddaughter. She was opened her business Hometown Health in Seaforth. She is a doctor of naturopathy after seven years of schooling. Naturopathy is alternative health care that uses many natural and non- invasive therapies. She is having a grand opening of her resource centre on Saturday in Seaforth and hopes to see her Walton friends. Andrea is the daughter of Roy and Linda Gingerich and we wish her all the best in her endeavour. Birthday babies this past week include Isobelle Shortreed, Sarah Williamson, Ian Wilbee, Valerie Laverty Shortreed, Faye MacDonald, Donna McClure, Linda Gingerich, Linda McDonald, Joan Tuchlinsky and Nick Haller. shared a handout of 150 WaN a tk) show kids you care. This Saturday, the sanctuary will be decorated for Christmas and the participation of young and old is at 9:30 a.m. Later that day is the Walton WUCC day out. Don't forget the Christmas potluck supper meeting on Wednesday, 4 at 6:30 p.m. Members arc encouraged to bring a guest. White Gift Sunday has been changed to Dec. 8 so you have time to pick up something for the Huron County Christmas Bureau. Gifts are preferred unwrapped for easier distribution. Food, toys and clothes are welcome gifts.
