THE EDITOR,
Canada is the best country in the
world and I thought it was a free
country.
I am a senior citizen living in the
Highland apartments in Huronlea,
Brussels.
On Nov. 16 the tenants of
Highland apartments attended a
meeting convened by Barb
Springall, administrator, Huronview
and Huronlea; David Carey,
treasurer, County of Huron and
Norm Fairies, councillor, County of
Huron. The meeting was to inform
us of the mandatory changes that are
being made regarding cleaning' of
the apartments and meals.
Effective Jan. I, 2003 my basic
expense for a month are: rent,
$606.70; mandatory meals, $112;
medical expenses, $53.45;
mandatory cleaning, $80 for a total
of $852.15.

us I would suggest we could almost
double the water rates."
In an aside to council he
commented, "It would almost be
cheaper to bath in beer."
Council eventually asked staff to
investigate the feasibility of
installing meters in commercial and
multi-residential units. They were
asked to report back as quickly as
possible on any potential difficulties
that might result from such a
process.
My total income for a month is old
age security, $521.61; Canada
Pension, $218.07 for a total of
$739.68.
I have an excellent cleaning
person for two hours once each
month at $15 per hour. Also, I have
two daughters who come each week
to vacuum, dust and wash the
kitchen and bathroom floors. Why
should I be made to pay a union

worker $20 per hour, four times per
month to clean2
The younger generation should be
made aware of what is ahead for
them when they reach the so-called
"Golden Years".
The union and Huron County
should be ashamed of themselves.
Someday they will be a senior. What
goes around comes around!
