UC auctions dolls
Brussels United Church are
holding a Tea and Doll Auction on
Nov. 30 from 2 - 4 p.m.
Joan Golden had participated in a
doll auction in another church and
said it was a success, so it was
decided to hold one here.
Some of the church women in the
community joined in and designed
and named beautiful one-of-a-kind
dolls.
People can now, if they wish,
submit a reserve bid for one of these
treasures. Place it in an envelope
with the doll's name, at the church.
There will be a Dress Up corner
and tea party for the children.
Here is a time to bring out a fancy
hat and gloves and come for tea, fun
and join in the auction.
New siren here
Residents of Brussels will once
again hear the wail of the fire siren
Saturday mornings.
• With the replacement siren
recently installed atop a main street
building in the village, pager tests
will take place each Saturday
morning at 11:30 a.m.
The siren is triggered when a fire
call comes to the pagers carried by
all Brussels firefighters.
The siren had to be replaced after
it was stolen in August. It was later
discovered dumped behind the dam.
Fair health
Leona Armstrong gets her blood pressure tested at the
Health Fair held in Melville Presbyterian Church on
Saturday morning. The event included a healthy breakfast
and lunch, speakers and information on such things as
exercise for health and heart, massage therapy, spiritual
health and managing menopause naturally. (Vicky Bremner

FROM BRUSSELS
New from
the Branch
By Jo-Ann McDonald
The Cadets attended the Army
Cadet Challenge at Peacekeeper
Park near Ingersoll on the weekend
of Nov. 16. They returned after an
exhausting and chilly weekend with
a proud fourth-place finish out of 16.
Congratulations Cadets.
The Corp meets Tuesday evenings
from 6:30 - 9 p.m.
The Thursday evening darters at
Brussels legion had a dozen players
enjoying the night out. The winning
pair were Bruce Clark and Carol
Gross. Coming in second were Eric
Ross and Ken Miller. The high shot
of the evening was Sandra Josling
with 133.
It's blind mixed, so games are
drawn into pairs. Everyone is
welcome, members and non-
members. It runs from 8 to10 p.m.
This week's Friday night supper is
roast pork.
Saturday the regular bi-weekly
euchre had 11 tables of avid players
vying for the cash prizes. After 10
games, the winners were Glen
Sellers and Ed Stewart with 79
points. Tying for second and third
place with 73 points were Sally Scott
and Maxine Hinz and Bush Whittard
and Olive Papple. The lucky lone
hand winners were Ken Siemon for
the men and Edna McLellan for the
ladies.
The zone singles darts competition
was hosted by the Branch as well on
Saturday. There were 29
competitors. The best player of the
day was Branch 218 member, Wade
Henderson. He advances to the
District competition being held in
March in Mil verton.
Also advancing due to his third-
place finish is Bob Richardson.
Other comrades having fun for the
day were Eric Ross, Ken and Linda
Bird and John Harrison.
Congratulations to Wade and Bob.
The Sunday night singles dance
had a good crowd enjoy the music of
the Country Westernaires.
Members of the Branch in hospital
include Lloyd Glanville and Doreen
Rutledge in Seaforth. Dave Goebel
is up and about.
Let it snow. Let it snow. Let it
snow. The first good snow of the
season is really quite beautiful. the
pristine lawns, calm skies and
encased trees are awesome.
The scene sets the mood for the
fun of the next month. We're just
ready to celebrate Advent — the
waiting and anticipation of
Christmas with all the fun and food
and love and laughter that goes with
the next blessed season.
The bazaars and gatherings
continue. The women._ of our
Catholic congregation invite you_ to
their annual fundraiser this Saturday
and of course have treats in store.
The doll keepers at the United
church are ready to let you buy a
little beauty in time for Christmas.
So after you've been to St.
Ambrose — about 2 p.m. would be
good — come to the United church
for tea and the Doll auction. The
folks have lovingly dressed over 20
dolls in unique fashions. The
needlework in some is wonderful
and the styles of several seem to
resemble folks you might know. So
enjoy some fun on Saturday and buy
yourself or someone else a one-of-a-
kind gift.-
Family and friends are foremost in
our minds at this time of year and
several women in our community
have taken this privilege very
seriously for more than 27 years
now. Regular, intentional gatherings
keep these public school friends -
connected. Their combined worlds
have moved through high school,
further education, jobs, -weddings,
babies, funerals, divorces, more
jobs, growing children, a much
changed world, more jobs and the
joys of life itself.
Their friendship has changed and
grown with them as they gather
annually to catch up on each other's
lives. Donna Aitchison White
opened her home to her friends from
the past and those who came for
renewal this year were Mary Ann
Bernard Alcorn, Judy Adams,
Dianne Stephenson Bowley, Cheryl
Bauer Ryan, Brenda Knight
Wheeler, Karen Bridge Smith,
Jacquie Workman Cowing, Karen
Richmond Stewart and Catherine
Cardiff Fuller. Stories were shared
and the committed friendship
continues. Missing from this year's
reunion were Carol Wheeler and
Vicki McCall.
Get your duds out and be part of
the Santa Claus Parade starting at
Victoria Park on Saturday. Be ready
there at 4:30 p.m. with the music and
motion to start at 5 p.m. heading to
the arena for visits and treats.
Sounds like a good day.
