HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2002-11-06, Page 8Evan James Hickey and Katie Diane Culham were married August 10, 2002 at Church of Our Lady, Guelph. Evan is the son of Jim and Teresa Hickey, Auburn and Katie is the daughter of Bob and Carol Culhant, Sheffield. Following the wedding ceremony performed by Father Joseph Devereaux, uncle of the groom, the dinner and reception was held at the Italian Canadian Club. Evan is employed at Gay Lea Foods, Guelph and Katie is continuing with her Masters at the University of Guelph in Animal Science. Congratulations! The Blyth Bulldog Atom Rep team played in the. Brussels Optimist 29th Atom tournament this past weekend. Fans were treated to a nail biter during the first game against Lucknow. The two teams battled back and forth and both sides were scoreless until the final 32.7 seconds. Lucknow snuck one past Blyth to send the Dogs to the B division of the tournament. The next game, against Clinton, had Blyth on the winning side leaving the game with a 5-2 score. Goals were scored by Tolson Carter (three), Dallas Pennington and Michael McDowell. Game three against Milverton found the Bulldogs sleepy and the final score showed a loss of 4-2 to end the tournament. Blyth's goals were scored by Pennington and Carter. Goaltending was shared by Sheldon Reid and Grant Sparling. Other members of the team include Matt Popp, Tyler Middegaal, Kirby Cook. Adam Cronin, Colin Bokhout, Tyler Black, Lucas Cooke and Trevor Raynard. Coaches Chad, Mike and Kirk thank the Optimists for a well-run tournament and taking the time d tring the tournament to run a fun skills contest. Brussels Bantam squad defeats Minto by 5-2 tally The Brussels, Bantams split last week's games when they met Minto and Teeswater. When Minto came to Brussels Oct. 30, the Bantams offence was ready though the visitors scored first. Brussels tied the game before the end of the first period when Chris Jutzi took a pas§ from Greg Bowers and James Cochrane at 4:04. The home team surged ahead in the second with goalS" from Steven Ropp and Matt McClinchey. Assists went to Brad McKague, Andrew McDonald and Shayne Cochrane. Minto drew to within one at 11:46 of the third, but Brussels secured the win with two late period goals from McKague at 2:49 and S. Cochrane at 2:25. Scott Phillips and Adam McClure earned assists. The squad travelled to Teeswater Friday and in spite of a hattrick from McClinchey, they were unable to beat the home team. McClure and S. Cochrane assisted on McClinchey's netters in the 6-3 loss. Gals trounce County Boys The ABCDD Gals had a game against the County Boys this past Sunday. Even though the gals lent the County their best goalie the guys couldn't seem to keep ahead of the score. Dusting their feathers off the County Boys started to retaliate after falling behind two goals, but couldn't stay on their feet long enough to twang the twine. Beatles kept the score respectable for the Boys, but soon realized she was only as good as the team in front. The DD goalie had a reasonably easy time between the cups deflecting the shots that managed to get past the great defence. Sports Struggling for the puck A Blyth Atom battles two Lucknow opponents as his team played Friday evening, in the first round of the Brussels Optimists Atom tournament this past weekend. Blyth went on to become consolation runner-up in the C division when Milverton beat them 4-2. Mildmay topped Lucknow 4-3 for the C. title. in the B division, St. Marys ousted Forest for the consolation title while Dresden took the B championship from Listowel.
