Brussels Livestock report
Steers sell from $98 to $103, reach $113.50
Total receipts for the week ending
Oct. 25 were 3,916 head of cattle.
434 lambs and goats. On Tuesday
the fed steers and heifers traded at
prices $1 higher. The cows sold on a
market $2 to $3 lower. On Thursday
the veal traded at prices steady to
last week. The light lambs sold on a
higher market while the heavier
lambs remained steady. On Friday
all classes of stockers sold on a
strong market.
There were 418 steers on offer
selling from.$98 to $103 with sales
to $113.50. Allan Lewis. Ailsa
Craig, consigned three limousin
steers averaging 1,345 lbs. which
sold to Norwich Packers for
$113.50. His overall offering of
fifty-three steers averaged 1,406 lbs.
selling for an average of $103.54.
One blonde steer' consigned by
Frank Voisin, Formosa, weighed
1,320 lbs. which sold for $112.
His overall consignment of four
blonde steers averaged 1,314 lbs.
selling for an average of .$101.16.
John Smith. Zurich, consigned one

averaged 1,456 lbs. selling for an
John (Jack) Stafford of RRI,
Wroxeter, was recently presented
with the CKNX Radio Farms
Advisory Board FAB Award
recognizing his contributions to the
well-being of agriculture and the
rural community.
Stafford's nomination cites his
ongoing efforts on behalf of
individual farmers and his
commitment to the rural community
in the face of large company take-
overs and government policies. His
contributions to agriculture include
terms on the Ontario Soya Board,
the Grains Protection Board, the
Canada Grains Council, the Ontario
Federation of Agriculture .and the
Royal Winter Fair's Agriculture
Committee.
Stafford's contributions to the
agriculture industry have previously

including the 80th annual Royal
Agricultural Winter Fair.
This year's edition runs from Nov.
8-17 and is billed as the world's
largest indoor combined
agricultural, horticultural, canine
and equestrian event.
The fair runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
except on Sunday, Nov. 10 (9 a.m. to
8 pm.) and Sunday, Nov. 17 (9 a.m.
to 6 p.m.).
There will be new features at this
year's fair including the Royal
education program. Based on the
Ontario curriculum, the new hands-
on activities and resource materials
will be of interest to students.
Added to -the horse show will be
the Royal Canadian Mint Open

one limousin steer weighing 1,380
lbs. which sold to Norwich packers
for $107. His overall consignment of
twenty-nine steers averaged 1,493
lbs. for an average of $97.95: One
red steer consigned by Andrew
Mitchell, Listowel, weighed 1,415
lbs. which was purchased by Aylmer
Meat Packers for $102. His overall
consignment of ten steers averaged
1,507 lbs. for an average 0f:397.30.
Clayton Bearinger, Mount Forest,
consigned thirteen charolais steers
averaging 1,557 lbs. which sold for
an average of $95.81 with sales up to
$104.25.
There were 376 heifers on offer
selling from $98 to $103 with sales
to $107.75. Merkley Farms,
Wroxeter, consigned six limousin
heifers averaging 1,153 lbs. which
been recognized by the Huron
County Federation of Agriculture,
which awarded him their
Outstanding Contributions, to the
Agriculture award in 1978.
Stafford has been active in his
community, serving 14 years in
municipal politics. That service
included time as the reeve of
Howick Township and the chair of
several Huron County Council
committees.
He was also a member of the
building committee for the Belmore
Community Centre in 1977.
The CKNX Radio Farm Advisory
Board FAB Award is one of two
annual awards administered by
the CKNX Radio Farm Advisory
Board. The other is the CKNX
Radio Farm Advisory Board
FAB Bursary - a $1,000 bursary
featuring the world's best
international jumpers, the CIBC
Canadian Jumper Championships,
daily appearances by the Budweiser
team of Clydesdales and the Royal
Invitational professional rodeo.
Returning favourites will include
the GMC Cavalcade of Horses,
petting farm, butter sculpting
contest, canine agility trials, cooking
demonstrations, agricultural produce
exhibits, organic displays and
antique's.
General admission is $15 for
adults, $10 for seniors 60 years and
older, $9 for children and youth from
five to 17 and children four and
under are free. A family pass is $34
for a maximum of two adults and to
children/youth. Additional family
members are $9.

one limousin heifer weighing -1,165
lbs. selling to Norwich Packers for
$105.50. His overall offering of
three heifers averaged 1,267 lbs. for

Johnston, Bluevale, weighed 1,085
lbs. which was purchased by
Highland Packers Ltd. for $107. His
overall consignment of seven heifers
awarded to a student from the
Midwestern Ontario entering his or
her second year of an agriculture-
related post-secondary education
program.

each fall. •
This is the third year for the
CKNX Radio Farm Advisory Board
FAB Award - the first was presented
in 1999.
The CKNX Radio Farm Advisory
board is a group of farm and agri-
business people from across
Midwestern Ontario established by
the radio station to help it maintain
and build upon its strong agricultural
information programming. The
board's members. have backgrounds
in a wide range of commodities -
and come from across Midwestern
Ontario.
Tickets for the Royal horse show,
which includes general admission to
the fair are $37 for Tier 2 reserved or
$31.50 for Tier 3. A family pass is
$125, Tier 2 or $100, Tier 3, for two
adults and two children/youth.
The family passes are available for
matinee performances only, on Nov.
9-10 and Nov. 16.
There are free horse show
performances Nov. 8, 9, 12, 13, 14,
16 and 17 in the afternoon and/or
morning.
