Students do Halloween activities
The Cranbrook Hall board
donated the use of the hall for a pre
Halloween. children's party (for
young children, two - five years
old). Some 25 children all dressed in
wonderful costumes attended.
Many games were played.
There was a colouring table, a
playdough table and Marie Mitchell
read some Halloween stories.
Seeing as this party was a success,
it is hoped that it can be repeated and
expanded to include higher age
groups of children next year. The
hall board received thanks and a
donation for the hall finances.
On Saturday, Nov. 2, the working
bee at the Cranbrook Hall is all set
to go. There will be jobs for every
volunteer and of course coffee and
doughnuts. Everyone wanting to
contribute man and woman power
and time is welcome.
The Slater family has a new

boys are doing woodworking and
making a model car.
The younger students have
completed a unit on time. The senior

perimeter and area.
Last Friday Ms Van Bolhuis
wrapped up her cross-country
coaching activities for this year by
travelling to the district cross-
country meet at Upper Thames
Elementary School. with runners
from Grey. She reports that many
North Huron runners placed well,
including Kelsey Lise, of Howick
who placed sixth, Niles Reinink,
also of Howick, who placed seventh,
Jessica McDonald, from Brussels
P.S., who placed sixth and [saac
-Peel, a Turnberry student who
placed fourth.
In Mrs. Bowler's kindergarten

names. On Oct. 24 they had a lot of
fun fingerpainting and making jack-

In the library last week Mrs.
Goodall's and Miss Hill's class had
visits from Clifford. These two
classes have been learning to tell the
story Clifford and the Grumpy
Neighbours and Clifford wanted to
help them understand this story so
they could tell it .better. While
learning to tell this story, the classes
have discussed, diagramed and told
each other about Clifford's big
problem in the story and how the
problem was solved.
Both classes- had excellent
questions for Clifford when they had
the chance Lo interview Clifford
when he -stopped by to play
Character Chair. Talking with
Clifford has really helped the
students understand the story.
In science, Mrs. Goodall's Grade

an experiment called Dancing
Raisins. Students watched the raisins
gather bubbles in gingerale and
dance as they floated and sank.
They have been studying Autumn

learning about characters that live in
stories they read, listen to and watch,
Another aspect of language arts that
the class really enjoys is reading
with their Reading Buddies.
Mr. Park has pulled out the
"storytelling fire". While it is
plugged in, the Grade 2s enjoy
telling scary stories.
They are writing a book called the
Little Ghost. The story is about a
little ghost with a problem.
Art activity is also centred around
Halloween literature, in particular,
_the Ghost Eye Tree, about which
they are painting pictures. In math,
they are learning about patterns, and
counting, as well as studying
subtraction and addition patterns.
They are learning how to play
chess and are still talking about
Japanese families.
The Grade 2/3s are hatching spider
eggs in a terrarium. They are
monitoring butternuts and black
walnuts that they put up in trees in
the woods with Mr. Perrie's help, so
see if the animals are eating them.
Last week in Mrs. Taylor's Grade

My Favourite Lunch. They were
concentrating on using adjectives in
their stories.
In health -the class has reviewed
"The four food groups, using the food
eaten at Thanksgiving. In science,

and tens to 1,000 backwards and
forwards.
The Grade 3s read a pattern book
about patterns in the real world and
started to make their own patterns.
Mrs. Murray's Grade 4/5 class has
been studying famous artists. Last
.week, they covered Grandma Moses
and American Primitive Art, and this
week they studied George Rouaul, a
Parisian artist who created stained
glass windows.

multiply two digits by three digits

instruments, then present them in a
drama circle.
They are doing measurements and
times tables in math, as well as
studying place value. In social
studies, they are working on projects
in the•Hairia. They are writing their
own scripts for their upcoming
Halloween Part 2 movie.
The -Grade 7 class has just finished
a measurement review based on
perimeter and area. In science, they
have just finished up their unit on the
earth's crust and will be starting a •
unit on heat. This unit will include a
major project that will be - due in

focusing particularly on regions. In
history, they have started British and
