Identifying the young
Students from several classes at Grey Central • Public
School were videotaped by members of the Brussels Royal
Canadian Legion last Thursday so that visual and audio
- identification could be used if required in an emergency.

Greeting worshippers at Duff's
United Church Sunday were
Margery Huether and Mary
Humphries. to a rather cool and
smelly sanctuary as the church
sanctuary experienced some furnace
problems. The guest speaker was
Colin Snyder, from Dungannon
Union Pastoral charge. He promised
to keep the service lively to keep
congregants warm.
After the usual opening, the Time
for the Young at Heart needed a
volunteer. Caleb Ringennberg
offered and was blindfolded by
Colin. He asked him to walk to the
back of the church and around to the
front. Caleb said he couldn't because
he couldn't see.
Colin then guided him around the
church and asked him if he trusted
him. That is how we have to be with
God, he said.
Colin's reflection was on Keeping
the Sabbath. He said people are
made up of three parts: physical,
mental and spiritual. He reminded
all that the fourth commandment is
Remember the Sabbath to Keep it
Holy. It is a time to refresh our whole
being.
The offering was taken by Keith
Wilbee and Lavern Godkin.
The Walton turkey supper is Nov.
6. The Walton board budget meeting
is Nov. 12, for all board members to
attend and the Walton Bluevale joint
board meeting is Nov. 19.
The WUCC meeting scheduled for•
Nov. 6 will be held Nov. 13 instead.
In November the church
responsibilities will be looked after
points. Coming in second place were
couple Frank and Kay Baer with 68
points and rounding out third place
were couple Ed and Marie Stewart.
Congratulations go out to Doug
and Marjorie Fraser who celebrated
their 54th wedding anniversary -
quietly on Oct. 22.
Chris and Matt Lee were busy this
past week and weekend. The new
Flu shots
at GCPS
During the afternoon and early
evening of Tuesday, Oct. 29 the
Huron County Health Unit will be
holding a flu vaccination clinic at
Grey Central School. Community
members are welcome to stop by the
school between the hours of 1 and 7
p.m. to get their flu shots. The
photographer will be back on
Wednesday, Oct. 30 for picture
retakes. Children who were absent
for individual pictures in September
will have photos taken. Parents who
wish that their child's picture be
retaken should contact Mrs.
Cochrane at the school.
As October draws to a close,
students are, of course, looking
forward to Halloween. Grades 1 - 4
will do Halloween literacy activities
during the morning of Oct. 31 and
Grades 5-8 will have a dance during
the last part of the day. Oct. 31 will
be "black and orange" day at Grey.
Students are asked to leave costumes
at home and dress in black and
orange. -
The Grey Central School Council
met on Oct. 7. There was an
excellent turnout at the meeting with
16 people in attendance. Dawn
Marie Smith will co-ordinate parent
volunteers „ so that their time,
interests and talents are well utilized.
School boundaries were a
discussion item. School council also
spent time establishing fundraising
goals for the year. These include
raising money to finish paying for
the outdoor environmental learning
structure, continuing the monthly

The fundraising committee had a
successful family spaghetti supper
on Saturday evening with over 50
enjoying the meal. Ideas for
fundraising are appreciated by
Glenda, Dianne, Betty and Marie.
London Motoplex (former Ice
House) had its opening race
weekend. Matt has been busy with
designing and building the indoor
track • and Chris with some
organizational help for the new
owners. Brett Lee is busy recovering
from knee surgery and we wish him
a speedy recupefation.
Herb Travis has been in hospital
and released. We hope he is feeling
better.
Home from Vancouver for the
weekend was Dr. Neil McDonald
visiting with mother Leona and
family members. An early Christmas
dinner was held on Sunday with
Leona, Neil, Karin, Jo-Ann,
LeeAnn, Kelly McDonald, Jason
Konarski and Robert and Marg
Stevens, at the Arden Park in
Stratford. Neil returned home on
Monday.
The birthday 'babies for this past
week include Margaret Stevens,
Janis McCallum, Brett Lee, Lois
McCall, Margaret Lacroix, Tanner
Leslie, Teresa Baan, Dan Taylor,
Erma Williamson, Doug Wey,
Megan Flaxbard, Shannon
McGavin, Doug Fraser, John Steffler
and Carol Humphries.

WLS raises
funds
The Walton Little School has some
fundraising opportunities available
to anyone who wishes to support the
school. They have juice, frozen
foods and Bright's cheese items for
sale and anyone can drop into the
school and place an order.
The pre-school class has been
learning the sound of the letter 1.
They have enjoyed making "ink"
blot paintings, playing in "icky"
goop, in the sensory bin and have
been reading stories in an igloo.
The children are excited to be able
to visit the class pet Cleo the rabbit
as she has been brought into the
hallway for the winter.
The toddler class has been busy
earning . about the letter P. The
children enjoyed learning and acting
out the story of the Three Little Pigs.
They are all ready for Halloween
with their carved pumpkins and their
pumpkin seeds.
