In a move that will impact those in
Auburn and the surrounding area,
Ashfield-Colborne-Wawa-nosh
council accepted, at the Oct. 1
meeting, the recommendations from
county council to close that small
library.
The vote was the final in a triple
majority needed to close the facility.
The county council and library
board had already approved the
move.
Usage had dropped to just 893,
down from 959 in 2000 and a high
of 4,500 in the 1960s. •
Auburn, along with Bluevale,
Fordwich, Gorrie and Centralia are
the level three libraries slated for
closure.
With municipal elections to be
held in 2003, council considered
whether or not to retain the current
ward system.
Information was received a survey
dne by the Ashfield Colborne
Lakefront Association. There was
77.9 per cent support for the wards
while 5.3 were opposed and 16.8
had no opinion.
Council agreed to retain the ward
system and have the deputy-reeve
appointed from elected councillors.
A tender from Bill and Tom
Kempton Construction for the
Amberley Beach water di.ribution
system was accepted. The total cost
will be $329,538.60.
The proposed water policy for the
Amberley Beach water system was
adopted while the policy for the
Huron Sands system was deferred
until such time as staff could review
the draft and make some
modifications.
In a follow-up to previous
questions about the municipality's
burning bylaw, staff told council of
several other municipal policies
which had been reviewed, noting the
regulations for the burning of leaves
and rubbish.
Currently the Ashfield-Colborne-
Wawanosh bylaw states that no fire
shall be deliberately set to burn
grass, brush, leaves, garbage or other
materials.
A bylaw to amend the regulations
was to be brought back to the next
meeting, with two changes. The
Hamlet of Nile will be included in
the bylaw and the properties zones
for trailer parks, campground or

recreational use will be exempt.
Council approved changes to the
fee schedule for Colborne Cemetery.
It was agreed that council should
not donate to schools in the
municipality for school trips,
following a request from Colborne
Central Public School.
A bylaw will be brought before
council to change all yield signs in
the municipality to stop signs.
Reeve Ben VanDiepenbeck and
Councillors Eric Gosse and Doug
Fines will attend the Annual
Southwestern Municipal conference,
Nov. 22.
A bylaw was passed to prOvide for
interim billing for the Huron Sands
water system.
