Hopi Prayer
Do not stand at my grave and
weep,
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
1 am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle April rain.
When you awaken in the morning
hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at
night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I an, not there, I did not die.

MYRTLE VODDEN
Myrtle H. Vodden, formerly of
Blyth, passed away peacefully on
Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002 at
Huronlea. She was in her 90th year.
The former Myrtle Turvey, she
was the daughter of Robert and
Mary Turvey of Morris Twp. She
was the wife of the late Harold
Thomas Vodden who passed away in
1985.
Surviving are her son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Brock and Janis Vodden,
six grandchildren, and six great-
grandchildren, two sisters, Jean
Cook of Blyth, and Helen Gowing
and brother-in-law, Norman Gowing
also of Blyth, and one brother, Ross
Turvey of Wingham.
She was predeceased by two sis-
ters, Adella Shaw of Brussels, and
Evelyn Turvey of Blyth, one brother
Lloyd Turvey, and one brother, Glen
Turvey in infancy.
Mrs. Vodden was born in Morris
Twp. and attended the Browntown
school and Brussels Continuation
School. She and Harold were mar-
ried in October 1932 in Ethel where
they lived for a short time before
moving to Blyth.
They both worked in a Blyth bak-
ery which they later purchased and
operated a very successful business
until they sold it in 1953. Mrs.
Vodden participated in all aspects of
the baking business, but her special
responsibility was the production of
a wide variety of pastries.
They then operated a very suc-
cessful television and appliance
business until 1965 when that busi-
ness was sold.
Myrtle Vodden was also active in
the community. A long-time member
of Blyth United Church, she served
in the choir for over 40 years, and
also held numerous offices on the
church board. She was the first pres-
ident of the Blyth United Church
Women's organization. She was an
active member of the Order of the
Eastern Star.
Myrtle and Harold were avid lawn
bowlers throughout most of their
adult years.
The family and those who knew
Mrs. Vodden well appreciated the
unfailing support '.he gave to Harold
in his coping first with a very serious
case of diabetes, and then later his -
blindness and a stroke. Only those
who were close to this devoted cou-
ple know how much she contributed
to Harold's triumphing over those
adversities.
In recent years, Mrs. Vodden fell
prey to another cruel illness,
Alzheimer's disease. Although this
disease gradually robbed her of
many of her strong faculties. she
retained the same warmth with
which she greeted visitors, and
maintained the positive outlook that
was so much part of her character.
A memorial service was held at
Blyth Visitation Centre, on Saturday,
Oct. 19. Rev. Dr. Eugen Bannerman
officiated.
Donations to the Alzheimer
Society or the Huronlea Volunteer
Auxiliary would be appreciated as
expressions of sympathy.
