Citizen staff
The United church congregations
of Cranbrook and Monkton recently
welcomed a new minister.
Theresa McDonald-Lee arrived in
the area Oct. 1 and an induction
service was held on _ Oct. 2 in
Cranbrook.
Having grown up. in the farming
community of Glencoe in
Southwestern Ontario, McDonald-
Lee knew she wanted to return to
such a community when she finished
her education.
When searching for a position,
McDonald-Lee said she read
through the presbytery's book in
September of 2001.
"This (charge) stood out
immediately," she said.
However, not able to apply until
February, she feared the position
might already be filled. To her good
fortune, it was still available and her
placement was chosen.
McDonald-Lee attended. Trent
University in Peterborough, earning
a Bachelor of Arts in women's and
environmental studies.
She then attended the Vancouver
School of Theology.
When asked how a BA in
environmental studies led her to
theology, she said being a minister
was something she always knew she
would do. However, it was not
something she had yet been ready to
pursue when she entered post-
secondary education.
She also believes her work in the
other disciplines has enhanced her
abilities in theology.
I learned about the environment,
creation and equality," she said.
Through her educational years,
McDonald-Lee worked first at Camp
Kintail, a 'church camp north of
Goderich, then at Camp Douglas in
British Columbia where she also
served as a year-round director.
When it came time to seek a
ministry position, McDonald-Lee
said the Cranbrook-Monkton
congregations seemed right.
"Everything fit and I love the area,"
she said.
Still very new to Huron and Perth
counties, McDonald-Lee said right
now she would be focusing on
getting to know the people of the two
communities and doing a lot of
visitation.
She enjoys the true sense of
community found in smaller rural
areas such as Cranbrook, saying the
residents work hard to maintain that
feeling.

"I have found everyone here to be
very welcoming, generous and
open," she said.
McDonald-Lee will be residing at
the manse in Monkton with husband
Johnathon Lee. who is a graduate of
the University of Guelph and
involved in agribusiness.
Though her hours in Cranbrook
have not yet been set, she expects to
be in the community one to two
afternoons per week. She can be
contacted at 347-9918.
She reminds ,everyone that the
Cranbrook service is held at 9:45
a.m. with a Sunday school for the
youngsters and there is a Women's
Missionary Society. Everyone is also
invited to attend the special
Christmas Eve service.
The Oct. .18 euchre party at the
Cranbrook Hall was hosted by Ross
and Betty Knight and Leslie and
Yvonne Knight.

served where many new stories were
heard and old stories told.

Cranbrook Church next Sunday,
Oct. 27 as it is the anniversary of the
Monkton Church.
The Cranbrook community
welcomes Tiffany Carter and Ryan
Chandler who have moved into the
house that for the past few years was
occupied by the Wittig
family.
Congratulations to Hilda •Saxon,
who celebrates her 90th birthday this
week. Hilda always visits Cranbrook
every summer for a few
weeks.
Next Saturday there will be a party
at Hilda's house in Scarborough and
Marg and John, Laura, Bronwyn,
Eddie, Cindy and other members of
the Saxon family will be going to
help Hilda celebrate her birth-
day.
On Saturday morning Nov. 2 at 9
