Greeting at Blyth United Church on Sunday, Oct. 20 were Faye Bolger and Lavern Clark. Guest musician was Lynda Lentz- MacGregor. Rev. Eugen Bannerman welcomed everyone. The opening prayer followed the Aboriginal tradition of praying in the directions. The congregation was asked to participate by facing east, south. west andnorth and repeat the prayer of directions. Rev. Bannerman's story to the children was about the geese flying south. In Denmark a flock of geese flying south spotted a field of corn and decided to land and feed for the night. In the morning they all flew off except one goose that thought it needed to stay for a few more days and eat corn. When it snowed one morning it decided it would catchup to the others. He tried and tried to get off the ground but with no success because he was too heavy. The lesson from the story is to stick together and work together and we can do a lot. His message to the adults was a different story of the geese. The reason the geese fly in a V-shape is they can fly at least a 70 per cent greater range than if they flew alone. The lesson from this is that if people share a common direction and sense of community they can get where they are going more quickly and easily because they are travelling together. If a goose falls out of formation it soon gets back into form as it is too hard to do it on its own. When the head goose gets tired, another goose will take his place and he rotates to the back of the formation. It makes sense to take turns doing demanding jobs with other people. The geese honk from behind to encourage each other to keep flying. We too should keep honking to encourage our leaders to keep going. When a goose is sick or disabled. there will be two geese land on the ground with it to stand guard until it is well and able to fly .again or it dies. Then the other 'Check out The Citizen's WEBSITE at www.northhuron.on.ca quickly catch up to the flock or join - another flock. The lesson in this is that we should stand by one another like the geese. The choir's anthem was It Took a Miracle.
