LARGE SELECTION OF INSTOCN WALLPAPER paints 53 Victoria St. S., Goderich 524-9671 ideal By Bonnie Gropp Citizen editor When Pierre and Marie Rammeloo purchased their home two years ago, there was really nothing wrong with it. Approximately 30 years old, the. unique dwelling is a ranch-style home with a partial second storey. It was tidy, unassumingly decorated and well -maintained. But for Marie, who was more accustomed to the roominess of an older home and the privacy of the country, it was evident some big changes were going to be coming. Her first project was the small closed kitchen, segregated at the back of the home with only one door leading into a tiny dining room. To access the TV area adjacent to the kitchen one had to wander through the dining room, living, room and hall. "The first thing was to open the wall," said Marie. Explaining how the dividing area was pushed back, she said it was "like parting the sea." A spacious kitchen and dining area was the result. While the oak cupboards were kept, a new ceramic tile floor was laid. At the far side of the kitchen, near the back door entry, was a small closet. This Marie, again by removing a wall, turned into a quaint alcove sitting area. The closet was then moved to the, laundry room area. Just off the master bedroom was a very small room, which Marie assumed was a nursery or sewing room. This was accessed however by a door in the hall, not through the bedroom. Marie, herself, knocked out the wall transforming yet another space in the house. But while opening up the structure has given it an airy appeal, it is Marie's decorating skills which have truly made it a showpiece. "When we first started out we were very poor. I learned how to do things without putting a lot of money into it." One of her innovative tricks is visible outside. Using burlap, which she draped over a trellis, she created a private, yet, open deck area for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful gardens she created outdoors. Even in the garage is Marie's hand noted. Taking four old doors, which she painted white and decorated with dried herbs and garden hats, she has closed off the more utilitarian aspects of the area in the event the door into the house is left open. "It's just little things," she says, when complimented on her talent. "There's nothing costly and I could Continued on page 15 CABLE • Galvanized Cable 1/16' to 5/16' • Wire Rope 3/8" to 3/4' • Stainless Steel Cable 1116" -1/4' • PVC Cable 1/8' - 3/16' Clear & White Coat ROPE • Polypropylene - 1/4" to 1/2" • Nylon 1/4", 1/2°, 5/8", 1" • Hemp 1/2", 3/4", 7/8", 1" Wide range of thimbles, shackles, cable clamps, etc. Above are stock items Other sizes and grades available by order 519-524-9671 Fax: (519) 524-6962 53 Victoria S.,Goderich, N7A 3H6 ar Suppliers of...
