Brussels Livestock report
135 veal on offer, holstein avg. $100 to $115
Total receipts for the Brussels
Livestock for the week ending Oct.
11 were 2,499 head of cattle, 423
lambs and goats.
On Tuesday the fed steers and
heifers sold on a steady market. The
cows sold on a steady market. On
Thursday the veal sold on a strong
active trade with the good calves
trading at prices $2 to $5 higher. The
lambs sold on a good steady trade.
On Friday all stockers sold on a
strong steady market.
There were 364 steers on offer
selling from $94 to $98 with sales to
$108, Gord Hem, Granton.
consigned one black steer weighing
1,240 lbs. selling to Dominion Meats
for $108. His overall consignment of
thirty-six steers averaged 1,416 lbs.
selling for an average of $95.77.
Three limousin steers consigned by
Jim Howatt, Londesboro, averaged
1,275 lbs. selling to Norwich
Packers for $106.75. His overall
offering of nine steers averaged
1,365 lbs. selling for an average of
$99.43.

Onto Ottawa and a trip to the
Almonte fairgrounds to where local
breeders brought their shorthOrns for
display.
From there they travelled to
Kingston then Collingwood,
stopping to visit with many
shorthorn farmers along the route.
By Oct. 1, participants were
travelling through Kitchener and
Brantford before a stop in Niagara
Falls.
The wind-up of the eastern portion
of the tour was held at the farm of
David and Jean Hunt in the Niagara
Region.
The group flew to Winnipeg Oct. 3
where they began with a tour of a
bull test station.
As they travelled through
Manitoba and Saskatchewan, they
viewed giant murals in Boissevain,
the International Peace Garden, and
elk and buffalo farms as well as
visiting many shorthorn breeders.
A stop at the Regina RCMP
headquarters was scheduled, but
because the group was running a
limousin steer consigned by Robert
Mitchell. Listowel, weighed 1,345
lbs. selling to Norwich Packers for
$100. His overall offering of twelve
steers averaged 1,428 lbs. selling for
an average of $95.60. •
Lauderlea Farms, Listowel,
consigned ten limousin steers
averaging 1,530 lbs. selling for an
average of $95:11 with sales up to
$103. One limousin steer consigned
by Ivan B. Weber, Paisley, weighed
1,360 lbs. which sold to Holly Park
Meat Packers for $106.50. His
overall offering of ten steers
averaged 1,461 lbs. selling for an

averaging 1,582 lbs. selling for an
average of $91.80 with one limousin
steer weighing 1,545- lbs. selling to

There were 281 heifers on offer
selling from $94 to $98 with sales.to
$104. Merkley Farms, Wroxeter,
consigned six limousin heifers
averaging 1,188 lbs. which sold for
an average of $102.52 with their top
five limousin heifers averaging
1,190 lbs: selling to Dominion Meats
for $104. One limousin heifer
consigned by Amsey Bauman,
Dobbinton, weighed 1,255 lbs.

kilometres by bus alone. This did not
include the flight to Winnipeg, said
Procter.
Fifty-three people participated on
the eastern position of the tour while
42 rode the bus in the west, with
approximately 30 staying for the
entire trip. However, Procter said, in
total, several hundred people
average of $96.11 with sales up to
$98.25.

conference, Procter said the
information provided and stops
made would be of interest to anyone
in the beef cattle industry.
