Summer_ Campaign Thank you to all of our donors for your generous
donations to this year's Summer Campaign. We reached our goal for the
purchase of a Dynamap (automatic blood pressure machine ). Your
continued support is crucial.
President's Apple Pie Auction We -applaud the efforts of Betty
Glanville and the SeJorth Agricultural Society for holding this
community event at this yeat's Seaforth Fall Fair. Their efforts raised
$845.00.
Tribute Gifts are encouraged by the Seaforth Hospital Foundation.
Honor an anniversary, birthday, retirement or any other special occasion
with a donation. The Foundation will send a notification of your gift to
the individual you are honoring.
HOSPITAL AUXILIARY
Bursary Congratulations to Pam Kaufman, recipient of. the Seaforth
Hospital Auxiliary Bursary. Pam is furthering her studies at the
University of Windsor. We wish you the very best Pam in your pursuit of
a career in Nursing.
Annual Tree of Lights celebration will be held Sunday, November 24,
2002. Please consider a "gift of light" for your loved ones this
Christmas. Tickets will be available soon from Hospital Auxiliary
members.
SEAFORTH MEDICAL NEWS
Prescription Renewals effective October 15, 2002, the Seaforth
Medical Clinic will be charging a $10.00 fee for patients requesting to
have prescription renewals picked up at the reception desk. Patients are
reminded to call the Clinic to make an appointment well in advance to
have their prescriptions renewed. There is no charge applied for
prescriptions renewed at time of appointment.

Medical Clinic by calling (519) 527-1770 for an appointment. No
medical referral is necessary:

WUCC
meeting
The Walton WUCC met on
Wednesday evening with a good
crowd of around 20 attending. The
meeting was conducted by Helen
Craig, Monique Baan and Marjory
Fraser. Marie McGavin was the
pianist for the evening.
The guest speaker was Andrea
Gingerich, granddaughter of
member Viola Traviss. She spoke on
naturopathy. She plans on opening
her own business in Seaforth.
She explained how it uses natural
medicines to treat the body's
ailment. She explained that every
prescribed medication you take
depletes something from your
system.
The WUCC meets the first
Wednesday of the month at the
church at 8 p.m. All United Church
women are invited to attend.
Theft from
MeGavin's
On Oct. 6 at 12:30 a.m. one of the
owners of McGavin Farm
Equipment called police over a theft
in progress. Officers responded and
met the owner who told police that a
fUll-size, dark-coloured pickup truck
pulling a box trailer pulled into the
lot and proceeded to load a piece of
farm machinery.
Stolen from the lot was a front end
of a loader used for hay bales valued
at approximately $400.
The vehicle was. last seen fleeing
the area southbound away from
Walton. Anyone with more
information on this theft is asked to
call the OPP or Crime Stoppers.
Thieves take
booze before
running
On Oct. 4 at approximately 2:30
a.m. OPP were called over an alarm
at the Brussels Inn.
The owner was the first to
respond with officers minutes
behind. No one was found inside.
A check of the building found that
a rear door to the business had been
forced open. The culprit then
grabbed a few bottles of alcohol
from the shelving behind the bar
and fled the scene.
Huron OPP are still investigating
and anyone who has information
that can assist in solving this crime
is asked to call the local OPP or
contact Crime Stoppers.
Members of Duff's United church
were, greeted by Leona and Jo-Ann
McDonald for world-wide
Communion Sunday.
The Sunday school children began
the service downstairs and later
joined the congregants for
communion. The choir sang God of
This Great Creation.
The scripture reader was Jo-Ann
McDonald.
Joan Tuchlinsky's reflection was,
We Are Not Alone, We Live in
Campbell and Edith Wey have
returned home from a week's visit
with their son and family in
Brandon, Manitoba. Their son Doug
and wife Heidi, children Tess and
Duncan were thrilled to have them
for a visit.
After returning home, they have
been the hosts for visitors. Daughter
Deborah Wey of Port Colborne and
Thelma and Gordie Wilson of
Cayuga spent time with Campbell
and Edith on the weekend.
Travelling to the Huntsville area
were Mary Humphries, Mary
McCall, Lois McCall and Dorothy
Cruickshank. They travelled by bus
to Pow Wow Lodge where they were
wined, dined and entertained nightly
by the wonderful people there for
four days.
The weather was great and they
visited an old country store at Dorset
as well as a cranberry farm at Bala.
The ladies report that the leaves
have not really turned their beautiful
fall colours yet, but the scenery was
still very lovely.
Doug and Marjorie Frazer spent a
few days in Windsor with son
Clayton and Bev and family,
Amanda and Sarah.
This past week Gloria Wilbee and
Heidi McClure travelled to Toronto
to the Power Within seminar at the
National Trade Centre Exhibition
Place. The Get Real seminar
featured the popular television
personality Dr. Phil and six other
authors/speakers.
They included Robin Sharma,
author of The Monk Who sold His
Ferrari, Mark Hansen author of
Chicken Soup for the Soul, Kathy
The Huron County Historical
Society held a meeting on
Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in
the Huron County Museum,
Goderich. This meeting was part of
a 10-day Marine Heritage Festival
which featured many marine models
and artifacts at the museum.
Paul Carroll welcomed everyone.
- Guest speaker was Mac Campbell,
photographer and marine historian,
who spoke about and showed slides
for the topic, A Pictorial History of
the Goderich Harbour. Many
heritage photographs were used for
this commentary with assistance
from George Parsons and Donald
Bert MacAdam.
On June 29, 1827 Dr. William
"Tiger" Dunlop and John Galt
officially founded Goderich at the
point where the Maitland River cuts
through the high bluff on the eastern
shore of Lake Huron.
The river mouth created a natural
harbour.

The day was spent listening to
these best-selling authors.
Visiting in the area with family
and friends is Mabel Willis's sister
Evelyn and husband, George Kerr.
They are here from Saskatchewan
for a week .or so. They gathered at
Dianne McCallum's home for a
McWhirter family meal and visit on
Sunday.
On Saturday evening in Clinton,
Mark Wilbee earned his second
shutout for the Huron Perth Lakers.
The score was 3-0 against Brantford.
The Lakers have won two games
and tied one, placing the team in
fifth place so far this season in the
Alliance.
The Walton Wonders ball team
enjoyed an evening away on Friday
night. They travelled to Heidelberg
to enjoy dinner and then into
Kitchener to the comedy club Yuks
Yuks. It was really an enjoyable
evening and laughter was the name
of the game. The evening was
topped off by a short visit to the
Stampeded Corral for dancing. It

The Walton Little School pre-
school class has been studying the
the letter C. They have been counting
cats, creating caterpillars, colouring
clowns and dressing up in costumes.
They were also busy having class
and individual pictures taken this
past week.
The toddler class spent the last
week reviewing the letters S and T.
They enjoyed making snakes and
trains. The class got involved in
picture day for the pre-school class
by using pretend .cameras to take
pictures of their friends.
By 1829 a complete plan for the
town had been drawn up,
encompassing the town's natural
boundaries to the east, west, north
and south to Britannia Road.
By virtue of its natural harbour the
settlement became the hub of trade
for large portions of the Huron
Tract.
In 1846-47 the -second lighthouse
was built and The Canada Company
built the pier in 1858. Many fine
schooners and tugs sailing out of
Goderich' were built right in the
harbour.
The annual dinner meeting will be

Columbus Hall in Goderich.
