Located at 273-275 Princess St., Brussels, the ghostly Halloween fun runs from Oct. 17 though Oct. 19. All proceeds will go to the Brussels Public School Grade 8 graduating class and the Huron Perth Lakers Minor Bantams. I thought on Sunday morning on the way to church that I needed my glasses rechecked, and they're just new! For before our eyes was a driverless car backing up, yes backing up the main street. On stopping to offer assistance. which really wasn't needed, we found that the wayward car had been making its way north — alone. When our friendly pusher passed the slow moving vehicle he quickly realized the deficiency and hopped out to remedy the situation. There are only a few strong souls who would even consider pushing a moving vehicle let alone backwards, alone and uphill. Chicken must make mighty strong muscles, right Dave? As we settle into the routine of fall and winter, take a look at your leisure hours and consider sharing them with the many worthy groups and associations available in our community. Think about the things that bring you pleasure and then approach a group that will match your interests. Time commitments are to your choosing as you are the volunteer. So call the 5R's, the school, the library, the arena, the churches or one of the many specific groups that make this community a better place. Get out and be a help and you'll feel better. The house tours of Nov. 8, 9 and 10 are causing lots of excitement as the plans are being finalized. Tickets are available at area businesses — so get yours and see the fine houses dressed up in Christmas splendour. This is another good chance to support the business association. When we. were. moving dirt about earlier this year, the land by the composter was shifted and became part of a hill of topsoil, ready for later use. Mother Nature was having a slow spring and what we received was a hill full of pumpkins this_ summer. They flourished and grew in abandon and until the parched vines shrivelled we had a hill full of vines and over 30 pumpkins of various shapes, colours and sizes. They have been a true gift of nature enjoyed by many. Thanksgiving is celebrated this week. A time to consider the many blessings in our lives and a time to realize that only fate and opportunity could put each of us in a very different situation. So use this time, set aside to give thanks, to the God of your understanding, for the bounty, the babies, the bouquets and the absolute beauty that we share in Huron County. Be thankful. Betty G. W. Toastmasters from five area clubs met at Dunedin Bed and Breakfast in Brussels last Tuesday for a speaking competition.
