It was agreed that Len Archambault should remain this group's representative for matters regarding the Seniors' Games. Also, Harry Lear was nominated to be assistant to the treasurer, Reta Kelland, who has moved to Mitchell. The seniors are hosting the fall rally for Zone 8 at the Betty Cardno Centre in Clinton on Oct. 17. Consequently a good deal of time was spent in discussing and finalizing plans for that event. Oct. 30 is the date for the seniors next regular meeting. The Breast Assessment Regional Co-ordinating Committee (BARCC) of Cancer Care Ontario, Southwest Region, is pleased to announce the publication of A Woman's Guide to Breast Assessment. This guide, now available from family physicians, the Ontario Breast Screening Program and Breast Assessment Program, was developed in response to the needs identified by women in the Southwest Region. "Based on needs expressed by women facing breast changes and/or abnormalities, A Woman's Guide to Breast Assessment provides one-stop shopping for accurate and clear information about the breast assessment process" says Lynn Ellis, volunteer chairperson for BARCC. BARCC,,supported by the London Regional Cancer Centre (LRCC), formed in 1998 with the primary goal of promoting the development of multi-disciplinary, standards based breast assessment programs that are Twelve western Ontario hospitals have come together in an effort to raise $1 million through a radiothon on Wingham's CKNX Radio. Dubbed the first annual Healthcare Heroes' Million Dollar Radiothon, the Nov. 9 fundraiser encourages listeners to call in with pledges for their local hospital. Each of the facilities has established its own target for funds and the project to which they will be applied. Wingham and District ,Hospital is hoping to- raise enough money to push the .year-long campaign for the new diagnostic imaging equipment. over the top,. .! The campaign has thus far raised just over $1 million of the $1.2 million cost. Other hospital foundations Dave Williams will he conducting the morning service at -Londesboro United Church on Sunday, Oct. 6. Senior choir will meet for practice at 10 a.m. that morning. Coffee, juice and muffins will be served prior to the service in the narthex. There will be a free-will offering for these refreshments for the Alzheimer Society's Coffee Break blitz. Don't forget the social evening this Friday, Oct. 4, planned so the community can say farewell to Reta and Orville Kelland. Drop in at the Community Hall any time after 8 p.m. Then, on Sunday, Oct. 6, you can drop in at the Community Hall again between 9 a.m. and• I p.m. for breakfast. The Londesboro Lions Club will be cracking the eggs, toasting the bread and cooking pancakes, etc. for their fall country breakfast. The cost is $5 a plate. accessible to women throughout the Southwest Region. A Woman's guide to Breast Assessment is one of the projects completed by BARCC in partnership with the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) - South and Southwest Regions. The decision to print the booklet evolved from the overwhelming need expressed by women during completion of the regional needs assessment. Women repeatedly asked for easier access to more information and support as they were having a breast change diagnosed. The following needs, identified by women in . both the South and Southwest Regions, are the same as those found in similar studies throughout the province. • The need to be diagnosed in .a timely fashion • The need for information - About diagnostic tests - What questions to ask your doctor participating in the radiothon are Clinton, Goderich, Chelsey, Durham, Hanover, Kincardine, Mount fForest, Palmerston, Walkerton and the Bruce Peninsula which includes Tobermory, Lions Head and Wiarton. The mums in the sanctuary at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, Sept. 29 were from the wedding of B.J. Cullen and Angela Flunking. Angela is the daughter of Murray Hunking and granddaughter of Lorne and Addie Flunking, former Londesboro residents. B.J. works for Richard Snell and the newlyweds have taken up residence in the house on Richard's farm, one and one-quarter miles south of Londesboro. The couple will certainly have something unusual to relate about their wedding. Rehearsal was held Friday night at the church in the dark. A blown transformer at the edge of Blyth put the whole area in darkness for several hours that evening. The Londesboro UCW is planning a project requiring jars. Any jar that holds two and a half cups - is acceptable.
