FROM LONDESBORO
Gang meets
On Wednesday, Sept. 25 the
Londesboro Happy Gang Seniors
held their first meeting after the
summer at the Londesboro
Community Hall.
It was agreed that Len
Archambault should remain this
group's representative for matters
regarding the Seniors' Games.
Also, Harry Lear was nominated
to be assistant to the treasurer, Reta
Kelland, who has moved to Mitchell.
The seniors are hosting the fall
rally for Zone 8 at the Betty Cardno
Centre in Clinton on Oct. 17.
Consequently a good deal of time
was spent in discussing and
finalizing plans for that event.
Oct. 30 is the date for the seniors
next regular meeting.
The Breast Assessment Regional
Co-ordinating Committee (BARCC)
of Cancer Care Ontario, Southwest
Region, is pleased to announce the
publication of A Woman's Guide to
Breast Assessment.
This guide, now available from
family physicians, the Ontario Breast
Screening Program and Breast
Assessment Program, was developed
in response to the needs identified by
women in the Southwest Region.
"Based on needs expressed by
women facing breast changes and/or
abnormalities, A Woman's Guide to
Breast Assessment provides one-stop
shopping for accurate and clear
information about the breast
assessment process" says Lynn Ellis,
volunteer chairperson for BARCC.
BARCC,,supported by the London
Regional Cancer Centre (LRCC),

of promoting the development of

A Woman's guide to Breast
Assessment is one of the projects
completed by BARCC in partnership
with the Ontario Breast Screening
Program (OBSP) - South and
Southwest Regions. The decision to
print the booklet evolved from the
overwhelming need expressed by
women during completion of the
regional needs assessment. Women
repeatedly asked for easier access to
more information and support as they
were having a breast change
diagnosed.
The following needs, identified by
women in . both the South and
Southwest Regions, are the same as
those found in similar studies
throughout the province.

timely fashion
• The need for information

The mums in the sanctuary at
Londesboro United Church on
Sunday, Sept. 29 were from the
wedding of B.J. Cullen and Angela
Flunking. Angela is the daughter of
Murray Hunking and granddaughter
of Lorne and Addie Flunking, former
Londesboro residents.
B.J. works for Richard Snell and
the newlyweds have taken up
residence in the house on Richard's
farm, one and one-quarter miles
south of Londesboro. The couple
will certainly have something
unusual to relate about their
wedding. Rehearsal was held Friday
night at the church in the dark. A
blown transformer at the edge of
Blyth put the whole area in darkness
for several hours that evening.
The Londesboro UCW is planning
a project requiring jars. Any jar that
holds two and a half cups - is
acceptable. They can be left at the
church or with Marjorie (523-4846)
or Brenda (523-4296).

assessment tests and procedures,
what to expect and how to prepare
for them.
• answering common questions
asked by women and their families.
• listing other sources that-can be
accessed for information and
support.
• providing tips and forms to help
organize the medical information a
woman will need to have at her
fingertips.

health care providers that can be
referenced at any time — even in the
middle of the night when anxiety
hits hardest.
• helping reassure women and their
families that the majority of breast

The virtue of importance at Hullett

May Sarton's quote for the week
states "Help us always to be hopeful,
gardeners of the spirit who know
that without darkness nothing comes
to birth, as without light nothing
flowers.
