Where've You Been by Kathy Mattea and She Misses Hint by Tim Rushlow. Both songs reflect the feelings of watching a loved one lose his or her memories and the sadness the family members feel. The offering was taken by Brian McGavin, Steve Gulutzen and Mark Wilbee. Everyone was invited to join together in fellowship for a coffee break where donations were accepted for the Alzheimer society. Coffee and muffins were enjoyed by everyone. Greeters for Sunday are Steve and Teresa Baan. Saturday, Sept. 28 the memorial service for Dr. Glen Oliver is at I p.m. Sunday school teachers are needed. Please call or contact Shelley MeGavin at 527-2394. A meeting will be held Sept. 29 following church. Nursery is being offered and volunteers are needed. Contact Shelley as well. Tonight Wednesday, Sept. 25 is the Waken board meeting at Duff's at 7.30 p.m. Next Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 8 p.m. will be the WUCC meeting with guest speaker Andrea Gingerich talking on naturopathy. Duff's United Church. Walton was led in worship by guest speaker. Gloria Wilbee. Worshippers were greeted by Paul and Dianne McCallum. Following the opening prayers and call to worship. Gloria Ailed the children to the front. She asked, "Do you ever forget something'?" Many answered yes. She went on to ask it' they ever forget fun things or special times. "No" was the response. She explained how easy it is to remember those fun things that are important to us but how we can selectively forget the not-so-fun things. Marion Godkin was the scripture reader. Gloria's reflection was "Who's In There'?" She spoke on Alzheimer's disease and how it has affected her life. Alzheimer's (AD) is a progressive and degenerative brain disorder that destroys vital brain cells. At this time there is no known cause or cure. It has touched over 300,000 Canadians and their families. Gloria explained how her mother has been affected for many years. She demonstrated a couple of examples of how simple things can be so confusing to someone with Alzheimer's. (Janice Becker photo) It was'a complete surprise to me to read the paper last week on being named Citizen of the Year. Individuals who came up to me while working at the fair, congratulated me. Other people have been busy in Walton as well. The Fritz family was busy a week ago with the wedding of Greg to Jill Carnochan. It was at Brucefield United Church with the reception held at Seaforth Community Centre. Greg is the son of Jim and Barb Fritz and Jill the daughter, of Sharon Carnochan and the. late Bill Carnochan. The newlyweds are residing at RR4, Walton. Jim and Evelyn Blake and Bev _Stevenson have also been very busy as their children Lisa and Chris were married last Saturday. St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Brussels was the setting. Travelling by bus, the wedding party went to Howard Martin's farm for photos, then on to the Wescast Community Complex in Wingham. The couple is residing at RR4. Brussels. The birthday party for September for the girls was held at Oakwood Inn at Grand Bend. The honoured guest- was Anne Ryan. Having a lovely lunch and enjoying the day were Anne, Audrey Hackwell, Marie Coutts, Mary Humphries and Marilyn McDonald. Rick and I and Steve Knight and M‘arni Dingman travelled off to the plowing match at Glencoe on Friday. We had no problem getting in and found it wasn't too crowded. The co-hostesses of the meeting were Lois Schneider and Brenda Perrie. Linda Stobo of the Health Unit spoke 'on the Road Watch program. The program encourages residents of Huron County to help keep roads safe by reporting dangerous, impaired and aggressive driving. It is the goal to make Huron County roads safe for everyone. As qualifiers for the Ontario Sire Stakes, and CKNX trip to Cuba, we were invited for the afternoon to enjoy the races, given free lunch and hope for the best. Brian and Jan Deitner, Rick and Ja-Ann McDonald, Ron and Betty McCallum, Ron and Dorothy Williamson and Mike and, Val Musselman along with 95 other qualifiers, hoped to be the winners but alas we were not. Greta Vandenhoven from Seaforth was the lucky winner and congratulations to her.
