Central Huron approves OPA application Atter a recommendation from Central moil's planning department was defeated. councillors gave approval for an OPA application by the Bluewater golf course. at the Sept 3 meeting. The approval recommendation to By Janice Becker Citizen sta/f When Rose Home opened Seven Sisters Gifts and Garden, located on Dinsley Street in Blyth, it was the realization of a life-long dream. Horne, who had wanted to own a shop since she was a teenager, said after much time, thought and prayer, she and her family believed the time was right. A native of Cambridge, Horne, who has lived in the area for 12 years, began searching for a location several months ago. She checked out locations from Bayfield to Kincardine, but came back to Blyth because of the atmosphere. "It is quaint and I like the buildings." she said. Once the building was located, the lower floor was gutted to create the perfect space. Seven Sisters is situated in a house and the commercial zoning allowed Horne to create the- "living room" setting she was looking for. And it is just like walking into a friendly, cozy. living room, filled with handmade gifts and keepsakes. Though much of the stock is provided by her ,seven sisters (yes. she really does have scvcn 'sisters), there arc also candles from Kountry Essences and soaps from the Elora he forwarded to the county was based on information that the land has been zoned developmental for many years and could he divided into 75 housing lots with no rezoning, the proposal would minimize environmental impacts soap company. Amongst the treasures are birdhouse lamps, dolls, bears, pillows, quilts, wall hangings, mats, cross-stitching, embroidery, paintings and stained glass pieces. "Everything is unique, handmade and one-of-a-kind." she said. Horne herself contributes the gardening end to the undertaking. Though there is little to offer at this time of the year, she is planting and preparing her gardens so there will be an abundance in the spring as well as a lovely setting out back where quests can sit and enjoy an afternoon tea. "It will be a real tea," she said. "with real china." During the off-season months, Seven Sisters will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. From June to September, the shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Horne's two children, Zach and Evie will also be helping out in the shop. "It is good experience and training for them." Horne's appreciation for small towns was borne out when the family began to renovate the home. "The friends and neighbours were great and some even volunteered to help. I like the small town atmosphere. This is home now," she said. due to communal sewage and water with some trees being kept or moved and that terms of reference from the Ministry of . Natural Resources would he followed. A motion was passed to waive rental fees for the Goderich Twp. Community Centre for use by the Town of Goderich as an outreach Ontario Early Years satellite service. The .program will be held once per week as a drop-in program, offering music and crafts for children. There was considerable discussion by councillors regarding interference with ongoing daycare programs and the choice of the lolmesville location rather than the Jacob Memorial building at Huronview. Councillor Bill Colquhoun agreed to attend the Clinton Co-op Childcare Centre's annual general meeting in just an observation role at this time. Support was given to a resolution from Leamington regarding the re- establishment of the environmental compensation fund for the clean up of spills. In passing a bylaw at the Aug., 12 meeting, the zoning for the former Hullett Twp. municipal office, at Part Lot 24, Cone. I I, Parts I and 2, was changed from developmental to institutional. A motion to reimburse the break open ticket licence fee for Clinton Minor Sports was defeated by council. Councillors were concerned it would set a precedent for other non- profit or charitable organizations. In an amendment to the 2002 ..budget, $825 was transferred from the Auburn Hall' reserve fund to cover the cost for stripping and finishing the hall floor. An -application will be filed requesting a reconsideration of the property tax classification for the former Goderich Twp. garage, with the change to result in exemp- tion. Lavis Constructing was awarded the contract for the connecting link- Victoria Park project with a tender price of $253.986.06 including GST.
