From Marilyn's Desk
The winner this week for the
125th calendar draw was Brad
Walsh of Blyth.
Don't forget the grand opening
barbecue and auction for the Blyth
and District Community Centre on
Sept. 21.
Sympathy is extended to Rev.
Cecil Wittich and family in the
death of his brother this past week.
We also extend our sympathy to
While the recycling of aluminum
cans has become commonplace in
this region, the Bluewater Shriners'
Club has brought a very worthwhile
pop can collection campaign to
Blyth which will directly benefit
local children.
Though the Shriners have been
collecting pop cans for five years,
the recycling bins just arrived in
Blyth on Threshers' weekend.
Located next to the car wash on
the main street, the multi-can
collection bin is expected to remain
in place through the winter.
Monies earned from the can
donations will go to Shriner's
Children's hospitals and research
centres, one of which is located in
Montreal.
Shriner Ted Fast said the club is
Isahelle Craig and family in the
death of her brother this weekend.
Janet Lawrie celebrated her
birthday with family and friends on
Friday. Sept. 13.
Lavern and Joan Clark and family
have returned home from a trip to
British Columbia. While there
Lavern, Erica and Shawn hiked the
West Coast Trail of Vancouver
Island.
Greeting at the Blyth United
Church were Lois van Vliet and
Irma Mason. Guest musician was
Margaret Kai. Rev. Eugen
Bannerman welcomed everyone to
church.
The choir anthem was You Are the
Salt of the Earth
Rev. Bannerman's message to the
children was, There Are Many Ways
to Pray.
The lectionary reading from
currently assisting six local children
receive the medial care they need.
Each is being sent to Erie,
Pennsylvania for treatment.
Other youngsters have received
medical equipment such as
wheelchairs.
The Shriners have been providing
free medical care, assistance or aids
to anyone 18 and under for 80 years.
There are currently 192,000 children
receiving care and with a budget of
$597 million, including $24 million
in research, continued support of the
program is needed.
Anyone wishing to have bags of
pop cans picked up can call East at
523-4335.
Exodus 14: 19-31 was read by
Lorna Fraser. Responsive reading
was Psalm 19 and the Gospel
reading was John 10: 7-18.
Rev. Banneiman's message to the
adults was the Alumni of the United
Church. There are millions of
Canadians who claim they are
United Church or any
denomination, he said, and are
never seen in church. but this is all
right. They believe in their faith but
it would he nice to see them conic
out to God's House and join in the
fellowship of the regular church
attendees. As Jesus said this was His
fold but there arc many to be
brought into the fold.
The church will celebrate its 40th
anniversary of this church building
and the 148th anniversary of the
church in Blyth on Oct. 27.
M-T
discusses
nutrient
management
Morris-Turnherry council learned
at the Sept. 3 session that the
province believes nutrient
management agreements have no
value and should not be registered
on title as several municipalities
now do.
Because of this position, registry
offices have discontinued the
practice until further notice.
Solicitor Dave Murray believes
there is value in the agreements and'
has filed a new perspective with the
province for consideration though a
final decision could take months.
Council passed a motion to
proceed with the practice of signing
nutrient management agreements
for building permits and will
register them on title when possible.
A letter will be sent to Minister of
Agriculture and Food and Huron
MPP Helen Johns explaining
council's wish. to register
agreements on title.
