the year-long effort of the board and
the many volunteers.
The Brussels Ministerial
The Brussels Agricultural Society
crowned its 2002 - 2003 Ambassador
of the Fair on Friday, Sept. 13.
The new Ambassador is Nicole
Lowe, daughter of Murray and Ruth
Lowe of Brussels. Lowe is attending
Fanshawe College in the Recreation
and Leisure Services program.
Lowe will perform her first duty as
ambassador when she opens
Brussels 141st Fall Fair at 7 p.m. on
Tuesday, Sept. 17.
The fair is held at the Brussels
Morris and Grey Community Centre
in Brussels on September 17 and 18.
The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. on
Tuesday.
The official opening will be
followed by a program of local
entertainment followed by the best of
the fair auction featuring pri/e-

The fair parade will begin at 12:30
p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18. The
students from Brussels and Grey
schools march into the fairgrounds
accompanied by floats, clowns and
numerous antique tractors.
This year the tractors will be
staying at the fairgrounds to allow
everyone to get a close look at some
of the equipment that has made
Huron County • one or the most
productive agricultural areas in
Canada.
enjoyed the wonders and beauty at
the Maitland Nature Centre last
week. And the supposed chaperones
enjoyed the company. Life is good

There is a correction from last
weeks Brussels Legion news. The
early bird winner's name was
Murray Nichol.
The elimination , draw is thiS
Saturday. Sept. 21. The draws start
at 6 p.m. with musical intermissions
until 8 p.m. when the entertainers
will appear. The final draws will be
made following the entertainment.
The Brussels fish fry will be
served from 5 - 7 p.m. Adults are
$10 and children 12 and -under are
$5. preschool are free. Advance
tickets are not needed.,
Service Officer Comrade Mabel
Glanville reports that the Provincial
Service Officer Randy Groundwater
will he visiting the Branch on Nov.
4. Appointments need to he made by
Oct. 14 so call Comrade Mabel at
887-9086 after 4 p.m.
The Cadets have begun and will
accept youth from 12 - 19 who are
interested. Come out and check it
out on Tuesday night from 6:30 - 9
p.m. and find out what it is all about
with Captain Grobbo.
The Friday night supper of
Salisbury steak was good. This week
is sausage, sauerkraut and scalloped
potatoes.
Upstairs at the Branch on Friday
evening was the Ambassador of the
Brussels Fall Fair competition.
There were -four vying for the title.
After a lasagna - dinner the
contestants delivered their speeches
and impromptu questions were
answered. The judges' deliberations
must -have been difficult but a
winner was declared in Nicole
Lowe.

The nights are cooling, the leaves
are changing and the air has a new
smell. Enjoy.

Kelly McDonald gave her farewell
speech and bestowed the title of
Ambassador 2002/2003 on Nicole.
Congratulations to Crystal
McLellan the first runner-up,
Kendall Yutzi and Peggy Proctor.
Comrade Irma Brighton is a
patient in the Seaforth Hospital. She
is wished a speedy recovery.
'Comrade Doreen Rutledge has now
been moved to the Seaforth Manor.
She is settling in and visitors are
always welcome.
Comrade Marg Bennett is under
the weather with It cracked rib but
with tender loving care from Ross
she'll be soon on the mend.
The Saturday afternoon euchre
saw 12 tables at play. The lucky pair
of Raymond and Lois Haggitt placed
first with 76 points. Close behind in
second place was Ed and Marie
Stewart and coming in third place
was Helen Warwick and Eileen
Sellers. The, lucky lone hand winners
were Gord Bosman and Edna
--McLellan who received free passes
to an upcoming euchre.
The Sunday night single dance
crowd of over 90 dancers enjoyed
the music of Southridge Sound.
it is Legion week across Canada.
All branches celebrate and promote
themselves in their towns. Branch
218 is hosting a youth and
membership meeting for the Zone
on Tuesday evening. On Saturday
the fish fry and elimination draw
will be the main event.
At the Friday night supper and at
the elimination draw the Legion will
be accepting donations at the coffee
perc for the Alzheimer's Society's
Coffee Break.
