(Vicky Bremner photo) I BRIDGE J L FROM BELGRAVE Club meets The Belgrave Community Club met on Friday, Sept. 6 at 1:30 p.m. The Zone 8 Fall Rally will be held on Oct. 17 with registration at 11 a.m. at the Betty Cardno Centre, Clinton. Anyone wishing to have a bus trip contact Donna Shaw. One trip of interest is going to Lake Simcoe, Oct. 15. Shoot parties will be Sept. 13 and Sept. 27 The new slate of officers were presented. Wingham and Area Palliative Care is having a silent auction, dinner and presentation on Oct. 5. The club's next regular meeting will be Oct. 4 of 1:30 p.m. Bob and Ruth Gordon recently flew to Kelowna to be with their daughter Margie who has spent the last three years there. Margie showed them many beautiful sights of the area. She was especially proud to shOw the Big White Ski Resort where she worked as supervisor of the Kids Centre. Eighty-two years of tradition will be relived in Belgrave today, Wednesday, Sept. 11, when elementary school students from East Wawanosh and Blyth Public Schools participate in the annual school fair. As well as entering school projects and art work, the children are given the opportunity to show off their gardening or cooking skills in a variety of categories. The East Wawanosh school council Meeting. is Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. in the library. This will be elections night. • The annual Meet the Teacher Night will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Kentucky fried chicken, hot dogs, pizza and treats will be sold to raise money for the various classes as well as to provide a break from regular lunches. Hot dog and treats days will 19 attend UCW meeting The September meeting of the Evening Unit to Knox United Church was held at the home of Louise Bosman with 19 present. Leader Lorna Cook welcomed everyone and thanked Louise for hosting the meeting. Thelma Pletch led the worship service. She reflected on gratitude for family, friends and vacation time. The hymn Sing to the Lord of Harvest was sung followed by reading scripture Acts 2 43: 42-47. All need to reflect and relax, to enjoy time out from busy schedules. All Things Bright and Beautiful was sung. The UCW general meeting will be held Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. in the church. The guest speaker is Joyce Johnston, a victim of M.S. Roast beef dinner is Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. in the Catholic Church in support of palliative care. Tickets are $24. It was decided to renew the Canadian Geographic magazine for the Wingham General Hospital for two years. Donna Shaw presented the program. Myrtle Pengelly and Laura Johnston served lunch. They motored home enjoying the scenes of this beautiful land. Margie will be attending Brock University. Chelsey Irwin of Edmonton spent two weeks of summer holidays with her grandmother Betty Irwin and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Kerry Calder of Scarborough were recent visitors with Betty Irwin. Doris Scott of Midland was a guest for two weeks at the home of Lorne and Lillian Campbell. While there she visited with other relatives and friends, Norma and Des Gurnett of Ottawa. • She also visited for a few days at the home of Lorne and Lillian Campbell and visited with other family members. For the animal lovers, everything from horses, cows and pigs to rabbits and chickens will be on display. Athletic ability is also awarded prizes as the students run- races and try to knock each other down in- games of tug-of-war. The parade, which begins at 12:30 p.m., ends at the Belgrave Community Centre where all the - activities can be enjoyed. be every other Wednesday and orders are taken that morning before 9 a.m. A sign-up schedule will be included with the next newsletter. Kentucky fried chicken will be sold once a month. Order forms will be sent home a week in advance. Pizza will be available each week. The proceeds from pizza sales will go towards the Grade 8 graduation and special presentations for the entire student body. Class tours grounds Continued from page 8 is weather. Mr. Walker's Grade 5/6 class spent some time in the environmental learning grounds last week. They also visited the book fair in the library. In science, Grade 5s are studying ancient civilizations and Mrs. Colquhoun is teaching Grade 6 about flight. Data management is their first math topic, so they have been graphing all sorts of interesting information. Miss Henry's Grade 7s are busy reviewing math and they have started their geography unit on the Earth's Crust. Mr. Payne's Grade 8 class have been reflecting on Sept. 11 and, in particular, Bruce Springsteen's musical response to this tragedy. They have listened to The Rising, which Mr. Payne describes as an eerie sort of tribute, and are learning the songs You're Missing and Nothing Man. On a more upbeat note, the Grade 8s have also been learning Fast As I Can by Great Big Sea. In addition to math review, they have been establishing their art portfolios and getting into the routine of weekly spelling lessons. Grade 8 students will be receiving Playground Leader Training on Sept. 20. Miss Van Bolhuis's SCC students are already engrossed in their geology unit. One of the interesting activities in this thematic study is classifying minerals. The Grade 7 students in the afternoon SCC were excited by the connections they could identify between their study of geology in the SCC and the Earth's crust in Grade 7 geography. Mrs. Colquhoun reports that all of her French classes are reviewing French from last year to get prepared for progress this year. Mrs. Colquhoun and Miss Van Bolhuis are looking forward to gathering students who interested in participating in cross country runs at the end of the month. Training will begin soon! 14 teams bowl Sholdice Insurance sponsored the last Brussels lawn bowling tournament of the year, Thursday, Sept. 5 with 14 teams competing. Winners were: first, Gerry Doney and Mickey Kuindersman, Stratford, three wins, 48; second, Eric and Joyce Matzold, Seaforth, three wins, 43; third, Bruce and Brenda Marshall, Mitchell, two wins, 43; fourth, Len Patterson, Harristqn and Jean Bewley, Brussels, two wins, 36 plus three; fifth, Jack and Audrey MacDonald, Lucknow, two wins, 34; sixth, Murray Walker and Gladys Cook, Stratford, two wins, 30; seventh Mac and Merle McIntosh, Atwood, two wins, 30; consolation, George and Doris Cantelon, Clinton. The share-the-wealth draw was won by Doug Kidd, Atwood and Kevin Rumig, Goderich.
