Mr. Walker's Grade 5/6 class
spent some time in the
environmental learning grounds last
week. They also visited the book
fair in the library. In science, Grade
5s are studying ancient civilizations
and Mrs. Colquhoun is teaching
Grade 6 about flight. Data
management is their first math
topic, so they have been graphing
all sorts of interesting information.
Miss Henry's Grade 7s are busy
reviewing math and they have
started their geography unit on the
Earth's Crust.
Mr. Payne's Grade 8 class have
been reflecting on Sept. 11 and, in
particular, Bruce Springsteen's
musical response to this tragedy.
They have listened to The Rising,
which Mr. Payne describes as an
eerie sort of tribute, and are learning
the songs You're Missing and
Nothing Man.
On a more upbeat note, the Grade
8s have also been learning Fast As I
Can by Great Big Sea.
In addition to math review, they
have been establishing their art
portfolios and getting into the
routine of weekly spelling lessons.
Grade 8 students will be receiving

Miss Van Bolhuis's SCC students

excited by the connections they
could identify between their study
of geology in the SCC and the
Earth's crust in Grade 7 geography.
