This occasion provides an opportunity to recognize the contribution to Legion and Auxiliary members in promoting the interest of men and women who have served the country. It is a time to reflect on the past and look forward to the future. No time is better than now, after being involved with other service groups and organizations to have had a successful 125th celebration, Threshermen's Reunion and the rejuvenation of the community centre. The next•meeting will be held Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. We have two winners to report this week for the 125th draw. Dinner entertainment will be Ted Johns. Blyth had thousands of visitors to the 41st Annual Huron Pioneer Thresher Reunion weekend. As usual the weatherman co-operated with very hot and sunny days. It was the first look at our new arena and it took some training to find your way around, with new doors and old doors closed. All in all everyone had a good time. All events were well attended including the firefighter's breakfast. Greeting at the Blyth United Church was Irma Mason. Guest musician was Margaret Kai. Dane Corneil favoured the congregation with a medley of Amazing Grace and Free Grace, and Go Down, Moses. Rev. Eugen Bannerman's sermon was on The Farmer's Creed. A quote from The Farmer's Creed (written for the New Holland farm machinery company in 1975) was 'I believe a person's greatest possession is his dignity and that no calling bestows this more abundantly than farming.' A century ago 85 per cent of Canadians coast to coast lived on farms. Now only one per cent of Canadians live on farms, with the exception of Huron County. Here 85 per cent of the population continues to live on or is directly dependent on the farms. • Farming has never been easy and it requires a strong physical and mental constitution, but it is essential to any country. He concluded his sermon with The Farmer's Prayer. Doug and wife B.J. McCrea from St. Thomas visited with mom and dad, Amy and Ralph. All attended the 25th wedding anniversary party of Maureen and Brad Montgomery in Wingham at the Legion Hall on Saturday evening. Results from Blyth Lawn Bowling Monday, Sept. 2 were: two game winners, Jim Wilson and Lawrence Plaetzer.
