At the Branch
By Jo-Ann McDonald
It has been a week of sadness at
Brussels Legion Branch 218 as we
learned on Sunday of the passing of
Comrade Cathy Snyder.
She had struggled with cancer
over the last year and a half but
always kept her hopes up and her
sense of humour. Famous for her
quick wit and one-liners she will be
missed by many.
Always ready to lend a hand at the
flowerbeds, decorating for every
occasion, she was also a welcoming
face and the initial driving force
behind the Sunday night singles
dances. Kate was a hidden treasure
at the Branch.
She was remembered in a lovely
memorial service and Legion service
on Friday at Branch 218. Over 200
family and friends were in
attendance to hear and remember
We're in the swing of September.
Churches have returned to • their
normal schedules and meeting
dates are set to get the happenings
going. Registration dates are set
for Cub and Brownies and hockey to
name but a few. The school kids
have settled into their routines and
have brought home their_ dates of
note. The fall fair is next week. Yes,
it's September.
The summer schedule at Blyth
Festival is over and all the good
memories remain. Except darn it,
of Cam and Laurie Procter. She is
currently attending Fanshawe
College in London and is enrolled in
the Business-Insurance program.
with Comrade Julie Harrison, Rev.
Cathrine Campbell and Joan Golden
in their eulogies of Kate and how she
touched so many lives. •
Our deepest sympathy and
condolences to her son Matthew,
Kendra and Seth and all her
extended family.
The Friday night supper of
chicken legs and rice was good. This
week is Salisbury steak and broasted
potatoes.
It was a quiet day around the
Branch on Saturday with a few
around to watch the early bird draws
for the elimination draw, Sept. 21.
Over half the tickets are sold.
The early bird winners of $50 each
were Kevin Nichol, John and Julie
Harrison and Evan, Danielle and
Emily • (Ross Bennett's
grandchildren).

Anne is moving on to other ventures.
Thanks Anne for a job well done.
The past few weeks in Brussels
have brought some significant
losses to 'many of our lives. Each
person in this life affects others and
only when death occurs do we
feel the full impact of that loss.
As we contemplate our lives and
how they are affected by a death
we are sad. The more time we
spend with another the harder our
grief. •
And so we remember Joanne
King, Cathy Snyder and Stu Parker.
Each one of these folks made our
community a better place. And as we
think of them and our loss instead of
letting the tears go on overly long —
do as they did. Play a song, dance a
jig, help a youth, paint a wall, hug a
child or just smile and be supportive
of the work of others.
If we can leave this world a better
place too, we've kept Joanne, Cathy
and Stu's memories alive.
Peggy enjoys playing hockey and
swimming. She is also a member
of a women's slopitch team in
Brussels.
