They make careful decisions about spending time and money, where to go and how to have fun. The following are some ways people gamble responsibly: • Gamble for entertainment, not as a way to make money • Balance gambling with other leisure activities • Only use discretionary income, not money for everyday expenses • Set a budget and stick to it. If you have lost the money you budgeted for gambling — stop • Don't borrow money to gamble • Avoid on-site cash machines for additional gambling money RESPONSIBLE GAMBLING COUNCIL (Ontario)" • Always set a time limit • Take frequent breaks • Be aware — risk increases at times of loss or depression If you want to know more about responsible gambling, visit the Responsible Gambling Council (Ontario) websi te at www.responsiblegamhling.org or phone at (416) 499-9800 in Toronto or toll free at 1-888-391-11 11. —. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2002. September is here. Gone are the lazy days of summer when watches are ditched and sun and stomach rule the world about us. Now it's At the Branch By Jo-Ann McDonald The lazy, hazy days of summer have come to an end and it's time to get back into the regular swing. Comrades Rick McDonald and Norm Dobson attended the zone fall council meeting at Howick this past week. As usual the hot topic was how to get members more active in the branch. Every branch seems to have the same problem. A core group of members do most of the work with very few others volunteering. The expense and upkeep of a building is always rising but the income is not. We are currently looking for four people to help once a month at either Saturday euchre 12:30 - 3:30 p.m. or Sunday night singles dance 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. These are bi-weekly events and most deal with preparation of lunch for the event. Call the branch or Jo.--.)Ann if you On Aug. 30 at 10 p.m. two officers on patrol stopped 'a vehicle on Mill Street in Brussels. The officers searched the vehicle and located open alcohol which was seized. While dealing with two people inside the vehicle, a group of 15 teens walked over. One male was arrested after causing a ruckus by yelling, back to life in an orderly fashion — ha! Anyway it's time for school and jobs and meetings and all the other stuff that we do as we wait for the next summer in our lives. We are so lucky to be living in a place where the seasons are so definite — the slumber and sleep of winter, the growth in spring, the maturing of summer and the rest and renewal of autumn. Each season so very specific in nature. Each timeframe has its purpose. For folks like me the changing of the seasons has its effect and so a could volunteer one afternoon or evening a month for either of these committees. The entertainment committee is also looking for imagination, creativity and new ideas to help in their efforts. We could use help now for the elimination draw and other events this year. Again call the branch or Jo-Ann. The weather has been hot and I'm sure the soft drinks have been popular. I hope you have been saving' the pop tabs from the cans. Remember they are used to buy wheelchairs not only for Legion members but anyone in need. Everyone can help by saving the tabs and dropping them into the Branch. The Branches in our zone join together to go to Parkwood Hospital in London to entertain the veterans and other patients once a year. We will be going on Sept. 28. We put on screaming and making abusive remarks. He was placed in the cruiser to cool down. Another teen threw a rock and smashed the rear window of the cruiser. The group failed to be co- operative, were abusive and the one responsible for the cruiser damage left the scene. The arrested male was later time to ponder them is in order. It's a time to remember our place in the big picture. A time to recall how our lives affect many others. It's a time to see where our lives could show improvement for the betterment of our spot. Life is good. We're just back for two terrific weeks in Algonquin Park — truly a Canadian treasure, 7,725 square kilometres of forest, lakes and rivers that were established in 1893 as a provincial park. Algonquin was well set up at that time to preserve the forest. a variety concert, as well as giving them a small bag of useful items they need or that the hospital system does not provide. If anyone wishes to donate items for Parkwood Hospital such as kleenex boxes, white socks, disposable razors, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap or other such items (no candy or talcum) are apnreciated. Drop items at the branch by Sept. 24. The meals on Friday nights are going to continue but with a slight increase in price. They will be $6 per plate beginning Sept. 6. They are available from 5.30 to 7 p.m. on a first-come, first-serve basis and serve yourself once only. This week is baked chicken legs and rice. The elimination draw is Sept. 21 and the early bird draws are Sept. 7 so get your ticket by Saturday to get released when he calmed down. The officers would appreciate any help that the public could provide in finding the person responsible for the destruction of the cruiser window. Call the OPP office or Crime Stoppers. Recent updates to the original master plan have reinforced the mandate for nature, history and utilization in this one spot. This means that camping, wilderness zones and logging can all be undertaken in harmony when everyone uses the one plan of action. It's a good place to just be yourself — the moose, beaver, heron and chipmunks don't care as long as you're quiet about it. . So back to work now. Summer is over. Bye now, Betty G. W. in on the early draws of $50. The general meeting for September will be on Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend and voice their opinions on the wellbeing of the Branch. In September the volunteers include Lisa Glanville, Anne Elliott, Ross Bennett, Terry Buchanan, Shirley Taylor, Dan Sholdice, Bill Bremner, Andrew Wright, Anna Cunningham, Dave Hastings, Darlene Nichol and,Ken Graber. _ Euchre results from Saturday, which had 11 tables at play are: Edythe Beacom and Geraldine Dale with 77 points and second place went to Delores Howatt and Hazel Reid with 76 points. Third place winners were Lloyd and Lillian Appleby with 73 points. The lone hand winners were Marie Stewart and Raymond Haggitt. The next euchre is in two weeks. FROM BRUSSELS Help for Today.
