Lightning plays in tournament final
The Blyth Lightning Mosquito
team ended their season very well.
Their last home game was on July
11 versus Wingham Aqua. Though
Blyth put forth a good effort, they
failed to put in a goal.
They lost the game 3-0, with
Jordan Good goal-tending.
The following week versus
Seaforth Centurions in their last
game of the regular season, Blyth
came out on top.
Seaforth scored the first goal of
the game, but Blyth soon came back
with six more. The final win was 6-
2, with great goalkeeping by Joost
Van Dorp.
Goals came from Lucas Egli
(three), Atom Cohn Bokhout, John
Bokhout and Jaimie Parish. Assists
went to Darren Bouman (three), and
John Bokhout (four),
Thirty-nine seniors from Exeter,

Ontario Senior Games.
Huron-Perth-Middlesex district
29 convenor, June Hodgson, was
delighted with the excellent level of
participation and the number of
medals won at the provincial games.
Participants were selected at
district playoffs which had been
held this spring and early summer.
The summer games are comprised
of 14 events: lawn bowling, golf,
swimming, walking, carpet
bowling, euchre, bridge, cribbage,
bid euchre, billiards, horse shoes,
tennis, darts, and biking.
The provincial games began in
1986 and are held every two years
in a different location.-
Queen's University in Kingston
housed over 1,200 participants in
the campus dormitories. On
Tuesday evening the opening
ceremonies for the games began
with a colourful parade of
participants from all 34 districts of
Ontario.
Many districts wore matching
scarves or vests. This district all
wore matching vests which had
been made by district 29
women.
The huge crowd of seniors was
welcomed by provincial president

With renewed confidence, the
Lightning entered the year-end
tournament in Lucknow, held July
23-27. The first tournament game
was played July 23 against Goderich
Knights of Columbus. It was a very
close match, with no goals scored
until late in the second half. Egli put
one in for Blyth, but Goderich tied it
up.
The game ended that way, so they
proceeded to a shoot-out with Blyth
shooting first. The five shooters for
Blyth were Parish, Cassandra Uyl,
John Bokhout, Jenny MacDonald,
and Egli.
After four shots by each team, still
no point was scored. Then Egli shot
one in, putting the pressure on
Norm Steeper from Lucan.
The games took place Wednesday
and Thursday. Each participant had
two tries at their event and the final
score was a total of both days.
Thursday evening the

Last Friday, Wilfred Strickler
passed away in Brussels at
I4uronlea. Wilfred and his late wife
resided in Cranbrook for many
years. The community extends
sympathy to the VanaSs and Strickler
families.
Dave Mason and Nanette
Ziolkowski, who used to live in
Annie Engel's house, which is now
occupied by the Slaters, visited Tony
and Sheila Terpstra last weekend.
They also visited the Wiens. They
brought their children Kyra who is
Goderich, who also scored one.
Jessica Nethery was put to the test
next for Blyth, and put in the
winning goal when Goderich could
not do the same.
Excellent goalkeeping through the
game and shootout was done by Van
Dorp.
The following night Blyth took on
the Clinton Cosmos. Blyth was two
goals ahead with John Bokhout and
Egli scoring, but Clinton came back
to tie it up. Not wanting to go to
another shootout, Bokhout scored
another goal, winning the game 3-2.
Van Dorp tended Blyth's net.
The following night was the last
game in the division, versus
Lucknow Light Blue. Goaltender
was Van Dorp, doing another great
job. The game ended in a tie at two
goals apiece. Scoring for Blyth were
three and Walker who is six months
old.
Leslie and Yvonne Knight
celebrated their 40th anniversary last
weekend. First they had family and
friends over at their place on

Fron Reilly will return home after
his second trip to Paranagua in the
south of Brazil.
One of the largest agricultural
crops in Brazil is the cultivation of
soybeans. The company Fron works
for has a contract to install
automated machinery in a factory
that processes soybeans into
margarine.
Kim also visited Brazil to be with
Bouman and Bokhout. One assist
went to Egli. Shooting for Blyth in
the shoot-out were Bouman, Atom
Jory-Lynn Uyl, Tony Bean,
Cassandra Uyl, and Jordan Good.
Egli provided great goaltending
for the shoot-out under a lot ()I
pressure. With all three boys scoring,
and only one goal by Lucknow,
Blyth came out on top once again,
qualifying for the semi-finals:*
The semi-finals put Blyth and
Blyth against each other on July 27,
as the Lightning took on the
Thunder.
The Lightning came out with a
very close 2-I win, with Egli and
Bokhout scoring. Assists came from
Bokhout, Nethery and MacDonald.
Van Dorp kept a good watch over the
net in this game.
The finals were against Lucknow
Fron. She saw the local people, the
culture and agriculture there. Staples
are produce from banana trees,
sugarcane, and papaya trees.
Because Paranagua is a coastal city
much fish is eaten. The country is
magnificent.
Dark Blue, who played a very hard
game. Lucknow came on top with a
4-0 win. Goa'keeping was a joint
effort in this game with Van Dorp
and Good each taking a half.
Overall, Blyth.played a good game
and were very pleased to have come
that far.
Providing a very strong defensive
line throughout the entire
tournament were Good, Bean, Craig
Salverda and Frank Van Hittersum.
Playing half-back for the team were
Kirsten Sjaarda, Parish, MacDonald.
Nethery • and Luke Siertsema.
Playing a strong offensive forward
line were Bouman, Egli Bokhout.

Coaches Janet Bosma and Peter
Uyl thank all of the players for their
commitment during this- great
season.
Kim was there when the
Brazilians won the World Soccer

mad with people pouring into the
streets, speeial shirts, flags.
pennants, ballorns. music. fireworks
and partying.
