FROM WALTON
THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14, 2002. PAGE 11.
The Bowers family — Steve, Rita,
Greg, Laura and Gavin travelled to
the east coast. They were away two
weeks and toured Ottawa, P.E.I.,
Nova Scotia. They tented and
camped at parks. They went whale
watching at Pleasant Bay on the
Cabot Trail and visited the Cape
. Breton Highlands. They went on a
deep sea fishing charter off the coast
of P.E.I. and caught some cod fish.
They toured Fort Lewisburg and
went on a mine tour in Cape Breton.
Some people travel to Walton for
holidays as was the case of Pamela
Hackwell of Toronto. She had the
pleasure of visiting her parents,
Howard and Audrey, for a few days
and as always, there's a lot of laughs
when she's around.
Visiting from Port Colborne- with
her parents Campbell and Edith Wey,
was daughter Debbie. Always nice to
have family home.
Marilyn McDonald had daughter
Pat and Michael from Sarnia home
for a visit on the long weekend.
The long weekend was also party
weekend as many friends and family
gathered to celebrate Heidi
McClure's 40th birthday party at the
home of Keith and Gloria Wilbee,
Many gathered for a surprise dinner
party in the early evening and many
others arrived later to join in the
celebrations. Congratulations to
Heidi.
Travelling to Walton were many
members of the Baan families as Don
and Monique Baan hosted the Baan
reunion. Coming all the way from
Holland was a niece of Martin and
Catharine Baan, Martine.
Accompanying her on the trip was
her friend Jacobina. They stayed at
Don and Monique's and have been
touring around the area and visiting
with other family members.
Travelling to the west, destination
Calgary and High River, were the
McDonald family, Leona, Karin,
Rick, Jo-Ann, Kelly, Scott, LeeAnn
and fiancé Jason Konarski flew out to
attend the wedding of Michael
Warwick and Chrissy Larson, son of
Karin McDonald.
Special music
at Duff's service
Duff's United Church service
dealt with the theme, Are You Ready
to Rumble? Brian Black sang a solo.
The collection was received by
Teresa Baan and Neil McGavin.
On Aug. 4, the Sunday service
also included the Minute for
Missions presented by Darryl
Morrison. It dealt with how some
Mission and Service monies are
used to promote Vacation Bible
School in remote rural areas.
The newly renovated basement
held its first function in the WUCC
Ladies hosting a Blyth dinner. About
90 theatre-goers enjoyed the roast
beef dinner on Saturday, Aug. 3
prior to the performance.
Joan also announced she had
received notice of the passing of
Edna Glasier from B.C., the lady
who had the quilt blocks, from
which the WUCCIadies made the
qUilt now hanging in the sanctuary.
Her family conveyed her happiness
that the blocks had been put to good
use.
Joan welcomed Norm and Yvonne
Watson from Kitchener to the
service. Mr. Watson is a retired
United Church minister.
The whirlwind weekend began
with a family dinner on Thursday
evening with all the McDonalds from
Ontario, Neil McDonald of
Vancouver plus friends Maxine
Marks, Seaforth and Brian and Linda
Marks, Calgary, Mike and Chrissy
and Kendra Warwick and fiancé
Annus.
The family dinner was a
celebration of all the recent
milestones in the McDonald families.
Birthday babies Karin, Michael and
LeeAnn, university graduates Kendra
and LeeAnn, engagements of Kendra
and Annus and LeeAnn and Jason
and of course. the wedding of Mike
and Chrissy.
Kendra, Karin's daughter,
graduated from the University of
Calgary in Convocation ceremonies
on June 11 with her Bachelor of Arts
in Communications and Culture with
a Minor in Women's Studies. She is
working with individuals with
disabilities in the city of Calgary.
Our weekend continued by driving.
to High River on Friday. The
farmlands were not as bad there, with
hay being taken off but not much
chance for a second cut. The grain
fields were only about six inches
high. The road sides were even cut to
be baled.
We drove by several large cattle
feedlots, one holding about 10,000
head. The largest one around High
River has over 40,000 head of cattle.
Following the rehearsal on Friday
afternoon, we were the guests, along
with the wedding party, at a
wonderful barbecue at the bride's
parents' home.
The groom's parents hosted the
catered dinner of barbecued steak
and salmon. Cousin Bruce McDonald
joined us that evening for the
weekend.
Saturday was a beautiful day for a
wedding and everything was
wonderful.
Our family travelled to Banff on
Sunday through the Kananaskis Pass
which was just beautiful. Banff was
very busy and we took the cable car
to the top of the mountain. It was
quite a bit cooler up there and we
even had a bit of freezing rain fall on
us.
We returned to Calgary in the
evening and on Monday went
shopping and to the Calgary Zoo
until it was time to head to the
airport. We returned to Walton in the
early morning hours Tuesday, tired
and exhausted from our whirlwind
weekend in the west.
Also travelling to the west were
Murray, Sherry and Carali McCall.
They flew to Vancouver where
daughter Marci has been.
Marion Hunt joined them two days
later and had a great time. They
visited with Neil McDonald while in
Vancouver, then went and stayed at a
friend's condo in Whistler for a
week. It was a "blast" reports Sherry.
After Marci and Carali flew home the
rest went to Banff and Lake Louise
and then stayed with a nephew Steve
in Calgary. They stayed in Saskatoon
with niece Chelene Glanville, Alex
and Gail (Storey) Glanville's
daughter. They came across on the
Chichimaun and were away about
two weeks.
Leona McDonald was away two
weeks on her journey west.
Following the wedding of grandson
Mike, she travelled off to
Saskatchewan to visit with relatives
and friends. Jim and Myrt Speirs and
son Bob and Sue Speirs are in the
Kindersley area. There the land is
blowing away and the crops are a
total write-off. There is of course,
very little pasture and Bob reports
that for his small herd of cattle, he
needs four round bales of hay a day
which is costing him $320 a day.
While Leona was there, it was cool
and a light drizzle fell a couple of
days, but not enough to make-
anything wet.
She also visited with Ron and Lois
Linkletter and Dorothy Sinclair at
Sovereign Sask., and Mary Ritchie of
Rosetown. The women are cousins
of Ken's.
Maxine Marks was also at the
Warwick wedding, but went to
Calgary to stay with son Brian and
Linda. Leona and Maxine returned
together after being away two weeks.

all the fields of corn.

Toronto, Grand Bend, the Farmers'
Market in St. Jacobs and Goderich
