Alzheimer Society
Letter to the editor
Soc. says thanks
THE EDITOR,
On behalf of the Blyth
Horticultural Society, thank you to
all of the Blyth citizens who donated
to our membership-fundraising
drive. Donations can still be made at
Blyth Apothecary.
This year -has proved financially
more difficult as we did not receive
funding from North Huron. We find
this lack of support very
disappointing as we are providing an
essential service in beautifying and
caring for village-owned property.
We look after the pumphouse
property, the village south-end sign,
the cemetery entrance and the
Dinsley Street Horticultural Park.
We also care for the box planters
on Queen Street and the Greenway
butterfly garden. The cost of flowers
and planting materials plus the
regrading and seeding of the Dinsley
Street park was approximately
$1,200.
More than 180 freely donated
hours have already been put in by a
small group of volunteers. Without
financial support from our council
we will, in a few years, be unable to
afford these services, our emergency
capital will soon be depleted.
Again, thank you Blyth citizens
for your support.
For Blyth Horticultural Society
Elizabeth Battye, President.

MVCA encourages
fitness activities
THE EDITOR,
At the end of June the public event
Take a Hike, Ride a Bike was held at
the Wawanosh Nature Centre.
Take Heart Huron, a program of
the Huron County Health Unit,
provided funding for this event to
encourage people to be active.
The MVCA invites everyone to
participate in other events at
Wawanosh which offer opportunities
for physical activity: the Fall Colour
Tour on Oct. 6 and a snowshoe event
in January. Call 335-3557 for more
details. There is no entry fee for
either of these events.
We encourage everyone to get out
often on the beautiful trails of Huron
County and enter the Walk to Win

nine days at Harrison Park in Owen

enjoyed a good game of mini-golf.
Their campsite became most
popular with Leanne entertaining
everyone with her guitar playing and
singing. Each night more people

Local artists
Jerry McDonnell, left, Greg Sherwood and John Palmer were on hand for the opening of their
three-man show at the Bainton Galley in Blyth, Aug. 9. While McDonnell and Palmer are both
photographers, they have very different visions of the world. McDonnell looks at decay and
rot while Palmer uses computer technology to enhance his works. Sherwood is an oil painter
who works with landscapes. (Janice Becker photo)
