During the final June meeting of
Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh
Township, a public meeting was held
to discuss the rezoning of Part Lot I.
Cone. I and 2 in Colborne Ward.
The proposal was to change the
lots from development to village
residential-low density-special zones
to permit one residence and
accessory buildings on the 4.6
hectares.
It was agreed that a decision of the
rezoning would be deferred until
conditions of the planning
department were met.
Council received letters of concern
from Maitlandview Estates residents
regarding the recently- approved
water rate increases.
There was to be a substantial
increase due to the system running a
deficit. Administrator/Clerk-
Treasure Mark Becker was to
respond, with letters, to the
individual concerns
Council received a letter of appeal
from Ken Leddy regarding the
Cook-Leddy municipal drain.
A verbal report was given
regarding a meeting with Ken .Alton
and a catch basin on the Lane
municipal drain. It was agreed the
catch basin is not acceptable and a
blowout already exists on the drain.
The drainage superintendent will
correct problems. He will also
contact the individual who is
dumping rocks on the berm along the
lint fence.
After an on-site meeting at the
Miller-Alton municipal drain by
Reeve Ben Van Diepenbeek,
Deputy-Reeve Neil Rintoul, Public
Works Superintendent Kevin Cook
and engineer Andy McBride, it was
agreed the list of deficiencies would
be corrected.
Approval was given to the
payment of general accounts in the
amount of $346,455.52: Iluronia
Welding, $47.01 and Ashfield
Service Centre, $92.
Council accepted a quote from
Lucknow District Co-op for a new
fuel tank and pump at Colborne
Cemetery for a 'total cost of $561.20.
Councillors agreed to continue to
receive one-third of their
remuneration as a tax-free
allowance, as permitted by the
Municipal Act.
The tender from Montgomery
Motors for a 2003 Ford FI50
extended cab pickup, at the cost 'of
$35,995, was accepted.
Approval was given for Lavis
Contracting to supply and asphalt
three locations at a cost of
$465,459.05.
After a resident asked if he could
hire the township road crew to work
on an access to his property, council
agreed the workers were too busy
and a private contractor should he
hired.
