Taylor earns silver at meet
The Blyth Thunder Mosquito
season ended this past week with a
tournament in Lucknow.
Sixteen teams competed.
The Thunder finished the regular
season with a seven win, two loss
and one tie record.
The first tournament game for
Blyth was played July 24 against
Goderich Tim Hortons. Gordon
Brigham led the way to a 4-1 victory
scoring two goals with Ben Caldwell
and Anthony Peters getting singles.
The next day the team played a
.tight contest against the Lucknow
Optimist squad. Adam Young scored
on a corner kick to secure the 1-0
win.
It was another close match on July
26 when the Thunder came up
against Clinton Cougars. With the
score knotted 0-0 at the end of
regular play, the game went into a
shoot-out. While the Cougars scored
first, Blyth had accumulated enough
points to qualify for the semi-
finals.
This game pitted Blyth against
Blyth, July 27, as Thunder and
Lightning clashed in a close match
which resulted in a 2-1 victory for
the Lightning.

There was success for three local
athletes at the Royal Canadian
Legion's provincial track and field
meet, July 12 and 13 in Sudbury's
Laurentian University.
Jenna Taylor, of the Blyth area,
earned a second-place finish and a
silver medal for her toss of 27.93
metres in the 17 and under javelin.
She also placed fifth in the shot put
with a put of 9.72 metres.
Taylor was the only non-club
provincial medal winner at the
competition. She's sponsored by
Blyth Branch 420 of the Royal
Canadian Legion. All other winners -
are members of track and field clubs.
Meagan Campbell, also of Blyth,
leaped 10.55 metres in the 17 and
under triple jump to earn a bronze
medal. Campbell also placed sixth in
the high jump with a jump of 1.5
metres.
Amy Cook of Belgrave competed
well in the 15 and under class,
bringing home an eighth in long jump
(4.42 metres) and a ninth in triple
jump (8.79 metres).
The girls are both members of the
Wingham Track Club.
Janice Henty, past president of the
Blyth Legion Ladies Auxiliary and
her sister Sharon Scruton of
Goderich, who is with the District C
support team and is an official. were
chaperones.
Crystal Taylor, Zone C-1 track and
field chair, Branch 420 track and
field chair and past president,
attended the meet as a track official
players for their commitment to the
game and for playing with
enthusiasm and heart during the
tournament.

Darcy Young, Brigham, Regal
Good, Jennifer Williamson, Kyla
Prescott, David Karhu, Johnathan
McDowell, Adam deBoer, Erin
Moore, Kendall Whitfield, Drew
Taylor, Hanna Bjorkman and Nicole
Fraser.
