PAGE 17. North Huron council briefs Council approves temporary use zoning At its July 15 meeting. North Huron council. despite one written objection approved a temporary use zoning for the Lockridge Arena. *** Payment of the bills and accounts in the amount of $230,073.95 was approved. *** In his report Director of Recreation/Facilities Dan Cousins informed council that the Wingham Pentecostal Church has requested use of Cruikshank Park and the ball park. Aug. 31 for a barbecue and concert. The church will provide security, insurance and washrooms. They anticipate attendance of 1,000 said Cousins. *** At the July 2 meeting Ashfield- Colborne-Wawanosh ouncil agreed to defer discussion on council remuneration until pay equity and performance evaluations had been completed. After discussions regarding fence bylaws, council agreed to proceed with zoning bylaws to limit fence heights at two metres. Locations for the new offical plan workshops have been changed. The sessions will now be July 24 at Kingsbridge Church from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to discuss agriculture and economic development and July 27 at the same church from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. reaardina settlements, lakeshore and services. In response to correspondence from the Ministry of the Environment, council agreed to proceed with the design and Council approved a beer tent for the slow pitch tournament in Blyth. Aug. 16 and 17 and Sept. 7 and 8. *** Approval was given to the Thresher Association for a special occasion permit. *** Council supported a letter from the county regarding the Volunteer construction of a communal well system for residents of Amberley Beach, as an extension of the Huron- Kinloss Twp. supply. Construction is to begin this fall. B.M. Ross and Associates were hired for the job. A new source of water will also be sought for Dungannon. It is expected to be completed by Aug. 31, 2003. Council accepted the tender from Sterling and Western Star Trucks of London for a 2003 tandem diesel cab and chassis for the price of $115,328.90 as well as the tender from Viking-Cives Ltd. of Mount Forest for snowplow equipment and combination dump truck box in the amount of $68,434.20. Instead of renting a pickup from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, the Lucknow recreation board has asked to purchase the vehicle. Council Firefighter . Employment Protection Act. Clerk-Administrator John Stewart said that the municipality is looking at the impact on taxes if firefighters are required to be full-time. This information will be forwarded to the county, which will then forward it to the Western Ontario Wardens Association. *** In response to a letter from the Region of Durham, council supported the recommendations from the Hadley inquest. *** Permission was given for the sale of CNIB cash calendars in the municipality. *** decided to set the price at $5,000 as is. The board would be responsible for all costs associated with the truck and its use would be split 52/48 between Huron-Kinloss and Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, respectively. In a report from the museum hoard meeting, Deputy-Reeve Murray Scott commented. on how the members were "gung-ho" in their attitude this year. Archie MacGowan explained several fudnraising ideas that they had come up with including cash calendars which it is anticipated could generate $15.000. Scott did note that income is not coming in as swiftly as they would like at this point, but said that if those involved continued to "keep the enthusiasm that they have, they should turn it around."
