Midgets play Elmira

Blyth's new soccer field hosted the year-end U-17

Thunder plays to tie
In the final game before the year- Gordon Brigham hit the twine late
end tournament, the Byth Thunder to tie the match,
Mosquitoes took on the Goderich Regal Good was the goalie.
Legal Eagles July 18. The Thunder is playing in the

The Brussels Midget girls entered
into WOAA play as a Home Brew
(1,000 and under) Bye team. Seven
teams were entered into the league,
Shakespeare, St. Pauls, Elmira,
Wingham, Hanover, Paisley and
Brussels.
The Home Brew teams were
grouped with Major teams.
Brussels drew Elmira for the first
round. Brussels playing in Ethel,
was home team for the first game.
Lesley Pepper started on the
mound striking out II. Stacey
Bowles relieved with one.
Brussels was leading 6-3 after five
complete innings when Elmira hit a
homerun to tie the game and had
another in the top of the seventh to
take a five-run lead.

of the seventh for Brussels with a

numerous shots clear of the net, the
Brussels U-11 squad was quite
evenly mathced against Elma 1 in
Newry, July. 16. -
Randy Zwep started the Brussels
attack early in the game, booting the
ball upfield to Thomas Johnson, but
the play was stopped.
Chris Becker worked hard on
defence keeping the attackers out.
It was another resounding victory
for the Hullett PeeWee ball team
when they travelled to Varna, July
17.
They gave a consistent effort
throughout the game, starting with
seven runs in their first at-bat. —
Hitting the plate for Hullett were
Eric Radford (twice), Anthony
Wilts, Joel Salverda, Terry Radford,
Derek Dolmage and Jon Merner. T.
Radford popped a homerun to clear
the pads.
Varna got two before Hullett
added seven in the second off runs
from Josh Nurse, T. Radford,
Dolmage, Merner, Eric Cald Nell,
Robert Thompson and E. Radford.
Nurse slugged a homer in the frame.
With the help of Merner's round-
tripper in the third, Hullett tacked on
six in the third and topped off the
rout with seven in the final inning.
Bernard waited out a walk. Bowles
and Nicole Lowe advanced runners.
Cassie Fischer's single scored two.
A long fly by to right field by
Catrina Josling scored Fischer to put
the team within two.
Brussels continued to load the
bases but was unable to-score.

Brussels travelled to Elmira on
Sunday, July 21 for a 4 p.m. game.
Pepper was on the mound and had
10 strikeouts.
Brussels held the lead until the
bottom of the fourth. Elmira scored
10 unanswered runs.
Brussels tired to battle back with
the time limit hovering over their
heads. Pepper led off with a single
being advanced by Kate Aitchison.
Candice Ross waited out a walk and
Semple cleared the bases with a
Heather Hill, Denise Thalen and
Kelby Krotz worked the mid-field
well, racing across the pitch chasing
down the play.
Johnston showed off his great
clearing shots, getting the ball ahead
to Brian Burgess for a chance on net.
Elma scored midway through the
first half when the shooter lifted the
ball over goalie David Grobbink's
head.
Though Varna was able to rally
with six runs in their final at-bat,
they took the 27-10 loss.
Wilts pitched the full game.

was back on the mound and struck

Crediton answered with two runs
in the second and one in the third.
Brussels scored a single run in the
third to take the lead 7-3. Crediton in
the final inning loaded the bases for
a homerun to tie the game.
Brussels was unable to score a run
in the final inning leaving the game
knotted 7-7.
The Midgets travel to St. Pauls on
Monday, July 22, Listowel on
Sunday, July 28 at 3 p.m. and are
home to play Parkhill at 8 p.m.
Grobbink later made a great stop.

from the goal. Matthew Cardiff and
Cam Schlosser aided in keeping the
score close.
Brussels could not break through,
settling for the 1 -0 loss.
