The Walton ball park saw the
Midget girls in action this past week.
They played against the Wingham
girls and were defeated. The Walton
Brewers played in Brussels on
Wednesday evening against the
Brussels Tigers and defeated them, in
an extra long game. 16-12. On
Thursday evening ladies slowpitch
was on the diamond and the Walton
Wonder defeated the Castaways in a
good game.
Congratulations to Ron and Nicole
Stevenson on the birth of new
daughter, Allison. Ashley and Brett
are excited siblings.
Congratulations also go to Tammy
and Adam Hamilton on the birth of a
new son. Reece. Brothers Dalton and
Owen are glad the new baby is here.
Sad news for Walton friends of Dr.
Glen Oliver who passed away
Monday morning. He was an eye
specialist who lived in Allentown,
Pennsylvania, but his family and
roots were from here in Walton on
the 16th of Grey. He was good
friends with Neil and Marie
McGavin who were to see him from
the Thursday to Saturday prior to his
passing.
Full details of his life and obituary
will be announced and a memorial
service is to be held at a later date at
Duff's United Church, Walton.
The village of Walton has been
busy and a little noisy with
construction going on. An enlarged
parking area for Ryan Truck Repair
and Ryan Trucking was in progress
during the week.
At Cook's, construction _ and
replacement of legs and augering
systems for the dryers and elevators
Was also in progress. A progressive
community is the village of Walton.
The Walton Women's Institute
hosted a Blyth theatre supper on
Friday evening at Walton Hall. Only
a small number enjoyed the delicious
dinner served by the ladies.
Holidays started for some last
week and ended for others. Having to
head home to St. John, New
Brunswick after enjoying a luiliday at
Jack and Donna Knight's were
daughter Joanne. husband Weldon
and children Allison and Andrew.
They spent Wednesday at the Toronto
Zoo along with brothers Steve and
Brad and Janine, Brad's daughter.
Weldon commented what a clean and
well run place the zoo was and you
could never cover it all in one day.
Returning from a short holiday at
Point Farms Provincial Park were
Ron and Betty McCallum and Barry
and Karen Hoegy.
After enjoying a wonderful couple
of weeks at Manitoulin Island, Paul
and Dianne McCallum, Harold and
Pearl McCallum and Wayne and
Joyce Hartman have returned home.
Joining them for a time were Chris,
Cindy and Loren Poland and Colleen
McCallum and friends.
Coming from Ohio were some
other friends who enjoyed the
wonderful weather and great fishing.
Returning from a train trip to the
west were Emerson and Phyllis
Mitchell, Mandy and Jamie Mitchell.
they headed to Saskatoon then went
to Unity, Saskatchewan with
intentions of visiting a cousin of
Phyllis's — Lloyd Cuthill and wife
Merle. Unfortunately, Lloyd passed
away while they were travelling
there, so they attended the memorial
service held for him.
He was born in McKillop Twp. and
was 70 years old.
While away the two weeks, the
Mitchell's also visited friends and
relatives in Kindersley, Bigger and'
Plenty. They had the opportunity to
visit the Edmonton Mall for two days
and Mandy and Jamie thought it was
great. The Dinosaur Museum at
Drumheller was also a great day of
interest for everybody.
Here for a holiday from Halifax,
Nova Scotia is Dr. Will Perrie, with
Margaret, Jessica, and Jonathon.
They are staying at Dave and Joan
Perrie's cottage at Bayfield and are
spending time visiting the family
members and Mom Clara. They had
lunch with sister Jeanne Kirkby at the
Walton Inn on Wednesday.
Home for the weekend from
Mississsauga were Connie Coutts
and Holly at Bill and Marie Couttses,
On Saturday Bill and Marie's
granddaughter, Pam Carter married
Curt Cummings. Pam is the daughter
of Allan and Karen (Courts) Carter of
Seaforth. The happy couple will be
living near Edmonton, Alberta.
On Friday evening there was a
great turnout for the buck and doe for
Walton's Rob Shortreed and Blyth's
Andrea Rammeloo at the BM&G
Community Centre. Their wedding is
Morris-Turnberry council held a
public works meeting July 9.
A bylaw was passed to
provisionally accept the drainage
report for the Mills municipal drain.
The Court of Revision will be held
Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. with tenders due
that day at noon.
Final reading was given to a
bylaw to regulate the installation of
swimming pools.
Council received a letter stating
that the Ministry of Agriculture,
Food and Rural Affairs had
approved the appointment of Lloyd
Michie as drainage superintendent.
Information was received that
bridges were to be inspected every
two years, depending on the size.

Friday was a busy day for the
McGavin families as moving was on
the agenda. Neil and Marie are now
living at RR2, Brussels, formerly Jeff
and Shannon's home and Jeff and
Shannon, Jacob, McKenzie and
Teagan are now at RR4. Walton,
formerly Neil and Marie's home.
Brian McGavin says everything went
well except for a minor mishap with
his ankle. Hope it's all right soon
Brian.
If you missed it on the radio, you
can drop off your old batteries at
McGavin's and Vincent's during the
next few weeks as a blitz is on right
now to collect them.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week were Gerald Watson, Devon
McCutcheon, Mitchell Ryan, Neil
Mitchell, Brenda Finlayson, Alicia
Dalton, Ed McClure, Monica Ryan,
Doreen Hackwell, Darlene Stevens,
Karissa McMeekin, and Janie
McEwing.
The Walton Women's Institute
meets tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the
home of Ruth Axtmann with
education the theme of the meeting.
Michie will ask the county about
doing the inspections. A quote had
also been received from B.M. Ross
and Associates.
The estimated cost of work to be
done on the Holmes Line culvert is
$32,000. The closing date for
tenders is July 29.
At the July 11 session of council,
Art Clark of Maitland Engineering
and Lloyd Michie, public works co-
ordinator attended to discuss the
hydrogeological report of bedrock
aquifer for the Morris Ward landfill
site.
Michie also reported that a $6,000
refund would be forthcoming for
PST paid to Radfords for
snowplowing.

Students
study
.Munsch
This past week at Walton Little
School, the pre-school class has
been studying Robert Munsch books
and doing activities related to the
stories. They are working on writing
letters to Robert Munsch in hopes
that he will reply.
The pre-schoolers are also
enjoying the grocery store at the
dramatic play centre. They are
writing a lot of grocery lists.
The school-age class has been
studying water, doing special
experiments and working on
designing and constructing their
own islands. They also enjoyed a
class trip to the library.
The toddler class has been
studying farm animals and farm life.
They planted flowers and are
enjoying their new water table.
