Obituaries DR. GLEN LESLIE OLIVER Dr. Glen Oliver, 64. of Emmaus. PA passed away Monday, July 8. 2002 at his home. He was surrounded by the love of his family, daughters Leeann Oliver McFayden and husband David of Harmony, PA and Leslee Sanzen and husband Keith of North Providence, RI; sons Blair Oliver and wife Celeste of Blackstone, MA and Dane Oliver of Stratford, ON. Dr. Oliver was also loved by Two granddaughters Devyn and Ellen Oliver. He will be lovingly remembered by his fiancee Edie Ritter, sisters Joyce Henderson (Bill) of Egmondville. ON and Mavis Bell (Art) of Northfield, MN and their families; and Marilyn Blair Oliver of Toronto, ON. Dr. Oliver was predeceased by his parents, Leslie and Vera Oliver of the Walton area. Dr. Oliver graduated from Seaforth District High School and the- University of Western Ontario. He was well known and respected in his field of ophthalmology, national- ly and internationally. At the time of his death, he was chairman. Di vision of Ophthalmology, Department of Surgery, Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, PA as well as associate .professor, Penn State University, Department of Ophthalmology, Hershey, PA. Glen volunteered his expertise in eye clinics in Peru, Belize and Haiti as well as locally through Lions, Rotary, Kiwanis and Boy Scouts. He was an accomplished marathon/triathlon participant and enjoyed playing the bagpipes. fly- ing, squash and skiing. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Allentown, PA. Glen always remembered his fam- ily and friends in the Walton area and was never more than a phone call away. The service was held Thursday, July 11 at 3 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Whitehall, PA USA. A memorial service will be held at Duff's United - Church, Walton, ON -at a later date. JOHN HESSELWOOD John Franklin Hesselwood of Blyth passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, July 8, 2002 in his 88th year. John was born in Hullett Twp. on Dec. I1, 1914, son of the late John Henry Hesselwood and the late Mary Jane Glazier. John farmed in Hullett Twp. until he moved to Blyth where he worked with the dairy, delivering milk with horse and cart. After that John was an employee with Howson & Howson Mills for over 20 years starting in the feed plant and ending up as a driver of one of their trucks. John was a volunteer with the Blyth Fire Department for over 20 years. He was a faithful member of the Blyth United Church and was a willing and able worker, carving meat and doing dishes at many of the church social gatherings. He was president of the Blyth Swinging Seniors for a number of years and he also served as a director of the Blyth Horticultural Society. John enjoyed gardening and was always proud of his garden and flowers. He also enjoyed hiking, biking, lawn bowling and skiing as his health permitted. Following his retirement in 1979 he and his wife Vera took several train and bus trips which he thor- oughly enjoyed especially ones to Alaska, Arizona and Churchill, Manitoba. John was the beloved husband of Vera (McVittie) Hesselwood and the late Vera and the late Beatrice. He was the dear father of Lois and Robert Govier of Seaforth and Reginald and Betty Hesselwood of Blyth. He was the dear stepfather of Art Hoggart of Clinton, Ken McVittie, Bonnie Mayhew and Randy McVittie, all of London and Doug McVittie of Burlington. John was also loved and will be sadly missed by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren. He was the brother of Ilene Johnston of London- and was predeceased by stepson Lorne Hoggart, and step-grandson John Hoggart, two brothers Keith and Leslie Hesselwood. The funeral service was held at the Blyth Visitation Centre of the Beattie-Falconer Funeral Homes Ltd. on Wednesday, July 10 at I p.m. with Rev. Cecil Wittich officiating. Interment was in Maitland Bank Cemetery, Seaforth. Flowerbearers were granddaugh- ters Wendy Murray and June O'Connell. Pallbearers were grand- sons, Ross (levier, Brad Ilesselwood and Ken Hoggart and stepsons Ken, Doug and Randy McVittie. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Blyth United Church Lift Fund would he appreci- ated as expressions of sympathy. BEATRICE HA LEA IIAN Mrs. Beatrice (Mugford) Hallahan of Blyth passed away at Huronlea Home, Brussels on Thursday, July 11, 2002. She was in her 101st year. She was the-beloved wife of the late Simon Hallahan and the late Harry Riordan. Mrs. Hallahan was the loving mother of Norman Riordan of Maple Ridge, B.C.; Dorothy and Roy Perry of Mitchell, Ray Riordan of Ingersoll and Harry and Betty Riordan of Strathroy. She was also loved and will be sadly missed by nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hallahan was predeceased by one son Grant Riordan, three broth- ers Lorne, Joseph and Benson Mugford and by two half-brothers Earl and Roy Mugford. There was no funeral home visita- tion. A private family funeral service was held at the Beattie-Falconer Funeral Homes Ltd. in Clinton on Saturday, July 13 at 11 a.m. fol- lowed by interment in St. Marys Cemetery, St. Marys, Ontario. Rev. Cathrine Campbell of Brussels offi- ciated. Pallbearers were Ray Riordan, Harry Riordan, Bill Riordan, Roger Riordan, Ken Grigg and Debbie Walsh. Flowerbearers were Clark Riordan, Jordan Riordan, Kelly Walsh and Jamie Walsh. Donations to the Women's Shelter of Huron would he appreciated as expressions of sympathy. • Cash stolen from Hullett residence On July 10 at approximately 2:15 p.m. a theft was reported from a resi- dence on Bridge Road in I fullett Twp. The victim told police that someone had stolen a quicksaw and hammer drill from the property in the last few days. Anyone who has knowledge of this theft is asked to call the OPP or Crime Stoppers.
