Shepherd
Hello my name
is Willem Shep-
herd and this
Grade 8 year has
been great! The
last three weeks
have gone by in a
flash of memories
of fun times and
sad times always
made fun again by friends, family,
and teachers.
Some of us have had all our
elementary education in this school
starting in kindergarten with
- teachers like Mrs. Carroll who has
been back at our school again this
year. Some of us were taught in the
room that is now the sunroom while
others were taught in the big new
kindergarten room with the big new
climber.
In Grades 1 and 2 some of us were
taught by Mrs. Henderson, who is
sadly retiring this year. In Grades 3
and 4 we had Mr. Farnell who is still
retiring this year. In Grades 3 and 4
we had Mr. Farnell who is still
teaching at this school. In Grade 5
and 6 we all had Mrs. Griffin who
teaches almost all of the music
classes. The next year was with Mrs.
Reynolds and she is the organizer of
all the sports such as volleyball,
basketball, three-pitch baseball, and
soccer. this year we have been
taught by Miss Hoonaard who
teaches Grade 7 and 8 geography
and history and who taught music
last year when we were in Grade 7.
That is just about the teachers,
now I will tell you what they taught
us:
In kindergarten: we learned the
alphabet and how to read.
Grades 1-2 we learned how to care
with warm and fuzzy stories every
day.
Grades 3-4 we were taught how to
enjoy school and make it fun. We
also did many great activities such
as a Japanese lunch and making
bathhouses.
Grade 5 and 6 we learned how to
measure perimeters and areas, and
how to spell words like nuclear
rations. We also did the Grade 6
testing, which most did quite well
on.
Grade 7 we learned more about
area and perimeter and were
introduced to mass and volume and
how to figure those measures out
with almost any object. Some of us
also learned that you should do your
work in school or you will have lots
of homework. This year we have
learned a great deal more
information that strengthens our
knowledge in all subjects.
Everything we were taught in
Grades 6 and 7 was reviewed and we
learned more about it. We also
learned how to write -a movie script
which was a large assignment that
we did in language while we were
studying communication.
There are also other teachers that I
didn't mention who taught us. They
are Mrs. Papple who taught us
French in Grade 6 and 7, Madame
Elizabeth who taught us French this
year and in the primary grades.
There is also Mr. Flood who taught
some of us homeroorn in Grade 7 as
well as science. This year Mr.'
Chisholm teaches Grade 7 and 8
science.
It has been a great eighth year and
I hope that all the students in our
class have a great time in high
school and maybe even university or
college. There are possibly three or
four high schools that the students in
this year's Grade 8 class will be
attending in the years to come.
These high schools are, Central
Huron Secondary School, F. E.
Madill, St. Anne's /and possibly
Seaforth high school if it stays open
next school year.
I have accumulated a few quotes
along the years; some of them recent
and some of them from years ago
and here are a few of them.
"Always be a first-rate version of
yourself, instead of a second-rate
version of somebody else." — Judy
Garland.
"Shoot for the moon because even
if you miss you will end up in the
stars." — Anonymous
These quotes are very powerful
and I would also like to point out to
everyone the quotes that are hung up
on the wall. They are printed very
carefully by Grade 8 graduates.
This year I attended a three-day
course and a week-long camp at
OELC, which stands for Ontario
Educational Leadership Centre. I
had a great time at both events as I
learned a lot of leadership and trust
skills. I will try very hard to bring
these newly-acquired skills to a
higher level.
I would like to end my speech by
thanking my friends, the teachers of
this school, parents and all others
who helped us this year. Now I am
beginning to wish that I was only in
Grade 7 so I could replay this great
year all over again, But I must say, I
sure am looking forward to high
school
