THE CITIZEN WEDNESDAY JULY 3, 2002. 2002 ullett Central Public Schoo 2002 Valedictorian looks back at the last nine years By Sara Moore Looking around the room it is hard to believe that these well groomed, handsome and beautiful young men and women are the same students that were here this morning. What a transformation. Tonight we look back on our past nine years at Hullett. What can I say? They've been fun. They've been hard. Mostly they have been educational! Now that I look back. where have the years gone? From the first day of kindergarten, we've been anxiously waiting for this day to come. Now that it's here, what do we do? Cry? Laugh? Say good-bye? Our lives are changing fast and vk e can't slow them down. As we prepare to step into the future, memories of the friendships. experiences, teachers (past and present) and the lessons they taught us come to mind. We started these nine years in kindergarten with Mrs. Kemp. It was a new and scary experience for us. Everything and everyone was so much taller than we were. Now, some of us are taller than our teachers. As we stepped up to Grades 1, 2, 3 and 4, Mrs, Walters, Mrs. Bosman, Mr. Sanders and Mr. Livermore guided us. Each challenge, each new lesson became a chance to spread our wings and expand our minds. Whether it was making clocks out of paper plates. show and tell, or computer games that were really math questions in disguise, we were learning. Our teachers also taught us the four most important words that we would ever need to know. They were the four r's - reading, writing, arithmetic and last but not least, recess! All of these things would help us through the eni or years. Grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 were new and not as scary as kindergarten. However, we were seniors now and with it came new responsibilities. Reading buddies, peer mentors, band and Tech 21. Mr. Gingerich's motto of study, study, study and homework, homework, homework kept us busy. Mrs. Stennett's many projects and band leadership kept us playing, while Madame Rea tried to expand our French vocabulary. Madame Turcotte took over, challenging us to outdo ourselves. Miss Wyatt repeated told us to practice, practice, practice! Thankfully, we listened. Our production of Tom Sawyer was a lot of hard work but it paid off in the end. Mr. Drennen,-you have led most of us for the last two years. Through the good and bad, ups and downs, trials and tribulations, we thank you for hanging in there with us. You have been preparing us for high school and the world ahead of us. Once we enter that world we will realize that what you were saying was true. We will be faced with many opportunities, good and bad and not 'always have someone there to tell tp what to do or which choices to make. One day we will look back on these years and fully appreciate all of the time and effort you gave us. Perhaps when we are parents with teenagers ourselves. I have five more people to mention. We thank Mrs. Webster, for organizing the volunteers and all of her priceless resource work. Mrs_ teRaa, we would like to thank you for sharing your computer knowledge and skills and for keeping the library organized. Mr. Bosman, we thank you for your tireless efforts to keep our school clean and presentable. Mrs. Miller, thank you for being a great secretary. Thank you for always welcoming us with a smile, a kind word and of course snacks! Mrs. Tebbutt, our principal and fearless leader. Thank you for gently but firmly keeping us all in line and on the straight and narrow path. Last but not least, I would like to thank our parents. You have played a big role in our lives and will continue to. A special thank you to those parents who gave a year or two of their time to home school some of us, myself included. As our parents, you made sure we handed in our assignments, encouraged us to bring up our marks on our report cards and have stood by us through everything. Thank you. I would 6lso like tb cbngratulate my fellow classmates for making it through these past nine years to this night. After tonight we will be separating. Some of us will be going to GDCI, some to St. Anne's and others to CHSS. Then on to college or university and the rest of our lives. Some of us will remain the best of friends, while some of us may never see each other again. This is life and the beginning of the many changes we are yet to experience. We have many roads- to choose from and many new experiences waiting around every corner. May you choose wisely. May each of you live your dreams and goals. As the song says, "Climb every mountain, ford every stream, follow every rainbow 'till you find your dream. And you can find your dream! from Matt, •- Congratutations eq - Best Wishes to our Grads!
