Co-valedictorians address fellow Grade 8 grads By Matt McClinchey Teachers, parents and fellow classmates Here we are on the very last day of our public school lives. I first want to say what an honour it is to be selected co-valedictorian at Grey Central. A couple of weeks ago Mrs. McDowell came in to the classroom asking whoever didn't want to be voted valedictorian to raise their hand. I never really figured I'd get voted so I never put my hand up. And guess what - here I am. Having gone to a few different public schools in my life I feel that I am lucky. Lucky to have met so many different teachers and made so many new friends in the past years. Meeting new people has made me learn a lot about life. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a bit of a sports nut. I think sports has also contributed to what I've learned and to the kind of a person that I am. Soon, fellow classmates, we will be heading off to the school in the sky. And there we will learn many more new things and meet many more new people. I'm sure that all of the things that we have learned here will be of valuable use to us next year. On behalf of all my classmates, we would like to thank all of our teachers and our families for all of their help and support in getting us here today. Bye for now. By Rebecca Reesor I think that this year for everyone was a lot different than other years and it took time to adjust. The teachers, rooms, activities, and classmates were different. For as long as most can remember, the Grade 8 teacher had been Mr. Colquhoun ... and his room, the current Grade 4/5 room, had always been the Grade 8 room. This year, we had Mr. Payne as the Grade 8 teacher and we were back to the old Grade 6 room. That room, for most of us, had many memories of which I'm sure could get Dave and Chris hysterical. I think Mrs. Hemingway deserves a bravery award or two just for having the courage to face our class everyday! I haven't been at this school as ong as most, so I can't really tell you about each of the years and different teachers we had. So instead, I'll tell you about my classmates and teachers from this year. There's Sara Moser-Always with a smile and dancing, someone you can count on to cheer you up and be your friend. Eric Van Veen - The first one in every situation to volunteer his help and services. David Schlumpf - You can count on him to make the day a lively one, with 'his outbursts and his "occasional" getting into trouble. Sasha Ruttan - If you need something, she'll lend it to you and is also likely to let her true opinion about something slip out of her mouth, but tries to be nice about it. Francis Deitner - He is a guy who's very agreeable with Mr. Payne and would answer every question if he could. Aaron Richmond - I haven't know him for long, but he always has an opinion that is rather sophisticated and has a vast knowledge of many things the rest of us do not. Mike Boyer - The fastest math thinker I've met, always giving me a reason to try harder in math. Holly Ann Sharman - I don't know Holly that well, but she's an amazing artist and singer as well, but is shy of mikes for some reason. But if she really wants to be a rock star then she'll have to overcome that. Stacey Holmes - She has the nicest personality and the most uplifting, encouraging comments like, "No, you're not cool." But if someone is being mean to one of her friends, she'll stick up for her friend and not leave them hanging out to dry. Danny Cochrane - He has an interesting' personality with an odd sense of humour and a more than occasionally annoying nature, like when he goes around the yard singing "shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake". His favourite person to annoy is Yvonne, but when he's not pestering us girls, he's a pretty good guy. Yvonne De Wit - There are many things I could say about Yvonne; her never-ending spat with Danny, her emotional and almost volcanic eruptions. But she's really smart and nice too. Travis Ziegler - He's pretty quiet, Continued on page 18 fattlicall°ns Cis 0 - from )00 \ N\ ) Urf / CO f,- Best Wishes to all the Grads! .,---- BRUSSELS LIVESTOCK 4.ii 411. t&I vaitUSSELs .
