Graduation
Warren Wray graduated from
Wilfrid Laurier University at
spring convocations on June
8, 2002 with an Honours
Bachelor of Arts Degree in
Psychology. Warren will be
attending teachers' college
at Nipissing University in
North Bay in the fall. Thanks

supported and encouraged
the journey.
Aged to perfection

celebrated a belated 90th birthday party at home on
Saturday. Family and friends gathered on her front lawn to
say happy birthday and share cake and reminiscences.

The euchre party held at the
Cranbrook Hall on June 21 was
hosted by Edna McLellan. Neil Hatt,
Viola Adams and Allan Edgar. There
were eight tables at play.
Winners were: 50/50, John
Subject; high lady, Linda Stevens;
high man, John Subject; low lady,
June Jacklin; low man, Allison
Sleightholm; travelling lone hand,
Tom Stevens; lucky tallies; Iola
Subject, Adrian Verstoep, Isabelle
Gray, Allan Edgar, Shirley Verstoep,
Stewart Musgrove. Velma
Sleightholm, Lloyd Smith, Mary
Huether, Ross Stephenson, and
Helen Gallop.
The next euchre party in
Cranbrook will be held Friday, July
5 at 8 p.m.
It is planned that the Cranbrook
euchre parties will continue to be
run during the summer months every
first and third Friday of each month.
The annual Smith picnic was held
on June 23 at Chris and Shelley's
farm. It started at 2 p.m. and lasted
well into the night. There were about
100 people in attendance and the
weather was great. Games and
potluck went over well and the
prizes were won by Connie Smith,
Carmen Smith, Craig Smith, Lloyd
Smith, Sheila Smith, Marilyn Smith,
Joe Smith and Harny.
On June 22 the Saxon family
entertained' their cousin, Sister
Wilma Best, from Cape Breton. Also
visiting were Marguerite and, Geoff
Nash and Marg Saxon's brother Gus
Duggan from Scarborough. Eddie-
Saxon came from Kitchener to be of
the party as well.
On June 23 Bronwyn Saxon
celebrated her third birthday with
her family and several
neighbourhood friends. The children
were entertained with games and
face painting and all together helped
to pain a bedspread for Bronwyn.
Everyone enjoyed staying cool in
the pool. Tortillas and ladybug cake
were served for dinner.
Ben Fretz, still my youngest
contributor to Cranbrook news,
reported that he had attended a
fishing derby event at the
Sportsman's Club in Wingham. He
had been going to the same event for
three years in a row and never
caught a fish. However this time
Ben told me he had caught three!
Congratulations Ben.
This week in sports the Walton
Bantam girls played Goderich and
defeated them 15-3.
The Walton Brewers played
Tuesday evening and defeated the
Wroxeter Rippers 6-5 in a close
game. The men's slowpitch team
played Wednesday evening and the
ladies' slowpitch league on
Thursday with the Walton Wonders
playing the Outlaws.
Congratulations to Marvin and
Wendy Bachert on the birth of
daughter Hillary. Derick, Heidi,
Hailey and Devin are excited about
the arrival and the fact Wendy's
mother from Welland is able to be
with them for awhile.
The Walton Women's Institute met
at the home of Marjorie Humphries
on Wednesday afternoon. The six
members present conducted the
business and cut out pictures for the
Tweedsmuir History Book.
Bill, Marjorie, Mary and Peggy
Humphries travelled to Hagersville
Saturday to celebrate the 60th
anniversary of Bill and Beth Walsh,
who is a cousin of Bill's.
Seven members of Walton's
Women's Institute travelled to
Gorrie to celebrate their 100th
anniversary. All institute members in
Huron East were invited to attend.
The Gorrie Institute is disbanding
after the celebration.
Gathering at the Walton Hall on
Sunday were the descendants of Bill
and Margaret Humphries, A good
crowd was on hand, travelling from
Sarnia, London, Toronto, Seaforth,
Newmarket, and Walton.
Walton Little School students are
starting the Berenstain Bear books
and associated crafts and activities.

and neighbours to sit out on the lawn
to trade stories and reminiscences
seemed to more than make up for the
slight delay.
Hooper was born in Toronto, the
daughter of John and Harriet
LeMasurier. Her secondary
schooling took place at Jarvis
Collegiate.
She went on to study nursing at the
Toronto General Hospital Nursing
School.
She married Frank Hooper in
April of 1931. They had five
children, Helen, Jim, Eileen, Valerie
and John. Ali were able to attend
their mother's party with the
exception of John who lives with his
family in B.C.
Family and friends arrived from-
Toronto, Brampton, Port Perry and
Michigan to help Hooper celebrate
the 90th birthday milestone.
Prior to retiring Hooper worked as
a registered nurse.

The damp but successful garage sale
was held last Saturday. The toddler
program and the summer program
for school-aged children are up and
running. Call and inquire about
space.
A great crowd attended the 25th
anniversary party for Rick and Jo-
Ann McDonald at the Brussels
Legion on Saturday evening.
Congratulations to Melissa
Whitmore and Shawn Snyder on
their wedding on Saturday. Many
Walton area people were in
attendance for the lovely outdoor
wedding.
Celebrating birthdays last week
were Jamie Clarke, Margaret
Shortreed, Adam McClure, Laura
they decided in her words, "to find
someplace a little quieter than
Toronto." Therefore after 25 years in
one home they moved to Morris
where she has lived for the last 27
years.
When asked if living in the
country is lonely Hooper is quick to
comment, "Oh no,- 10 miles is
nothing in the country." She also
credits her neighbours for their help
and friendship.
Although she no longer belongs to
any local organizations she is still
enjoying her country life with its
visits from the neighbours.
As for her children and
grandchildren she says she-can still
be the boss when she has too.
they get too rowdy I just give
them a dig in the ribs with my
elbow."
