LARGE ITEM PICKUP

FOR THE
MUNICIPALITY OF MORRIS-TURNBERRY
The Municipality of Morris-Turnberry is hosting a "Large Item Pickup"
or "Treasure Swap" Day for all of the residents with regular curbside
pickup on
THURSDAY, JUNE 20 AND FRIDAY, JUNE 21
If you have any large items you would like to give away or dispose of, set
them out at the Curb by 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2002.
Please identify items that are available to be "swapped" by tying a piece
of material on them. Any person looking for items must remember that
only the items identified with a piece of material are available for taking.
The Municipality is not responsible for items accidentally removed by
error, so all residents should ensure that all items are correctly labelled
or removed from the area.
Any items not "swapped" by Saturday, will be collected by Carter Waste
Disposal on
SATURDAY MORNING - JUNE 22, 2002
commencing at 9 am and transferred to the Landfill site. If you wish to
save any item not taken on Thursday or Friday, please remove them from
the curb before 9 am on Saturday morning.
Items that are available for collection are:
• Household furniture
• Appliances
• Barbecues
• Rototillers or other gardening tools
• Lawnmowers
• Lawn chairs and tables
• Clothing
• Refrigerators, freezers or air conditioners - only with a "Freon
Free" sticker.
The following items WILL NOT be picked up:
• Regular household garbage
• Recycling materials
• Construction or demolition debris
• Tires
• Agricultural waste
NOTE - LEAVES & YARD DEBRIS:
Leaves and Yard Debris will be picked up on any regular pickup day, free
of charge no bag tags are required; providing they are placed in a Clear
Plastic Bag, being Clearly Visible of the contents of the bag.

Midget girls off to good start with 5 wins, 2 losses
The Brussels Minor Ball Midget
girls have a lineup of 15 girls. They
are Lesley Pepper, Catrina Josling,
Amy Douma, Jodi Semple, Nicole
Lowe, Ashley Keffer, Nicole
Bernard, Cassie Fischer, Candice
Ross, Kate Aitchison, Stacey
Bowles, Julie Moffat, Laura
Warwick, Jenna Fischer and Racheal
Speers.
Coaches are Sandra Josling,
Sandra Pepper and Katie Harrison.

For the second consecutive year,
the Madill Mustangs rugby team
will be playing a team from Britain
in an international exhibition
contest.
Last year, it was a team from
England. This year, the Scots are
coming.
This year, the Mustangs' boys'

team bests
Kurtzville
The Wingham North Perth
Bantams played Kurtzville North
Perth away on June 13 and showed
their hosts no mercy.
In the first period, Jason Hamilton
put the team on the board with a
helper from Cory Chapman. Less
than a minute later Hamilton set up
Justin Thompson, who then came oh
to score his second, unassisted.
Chapman closed out the opening
period scording with another set up
by Hamilton.
The second period had goalie
Cory McDonald assist Xavier
O'Krafka in widening the visitors'
edge. Then in the final minutes of
the period, Chapman, with help
from Hamilton and Chris Crawford
scored the team's sixth goal.
Kurtzville finally got on the board
in the third, but Hamilton scored two
unassisted to end the game at 8-1 for
Wingham.
U-9s play
Newton
The Brussels U-9 soccer squad
played the Newton 3 team at
Mornington Central Elementary
School on June 10.
A quick start by Newton resulted
in Brussels being down by two
goals at half-time. Christine Bone
managed to get one back in the
second half with an assist from
Kabrina Bishop.
Despite strong efforts from Bone,
Bishop, Natalie White, Derek
Wood, Trevor Nesbitt, Patty Blake,
Emily Baker and Krista McKay
Brussels was unable to close the gap
further.
White and Bone shared the
goaltending duties with each taking
a half in the net.
Last Monday at 7 p.m. the team
hosted Newton 2 at Brussels but the
score was unavailable at press time.
On Monday, June 24 Newton I will
be in town for a game at the
Brussels Elementary School field.

The season started with a win
against Lieury by a score of 13-1.
Pitcher Pepper marked up 13
strikeouts with Douma clearing the
bases with a homerun.
Game two, Hclmesville took an
early lead that tne Brussels squad
could not catch. On the mound
Douma had two strikeouts and
Pepper had five. At the plate Josling,
Pepper and Semple all had long hits
but were unable to tie the game. The
team will be playing a team from
Trinity College in Edinburgh,
Scotland. Trinity Academy is a local
authority comprehensive school on
the north side of Edinburgh, serving
the areas of Trinity and Leith, which
is the port of Edinburgh. A girls'
field hockey team is accompanying
the boys' rugby team.
The school was founded in 1893
and the current enrollment is
approximately 1,000. The students
range in age from 11 - 18.
The school has six rugby teams
and six field hockey teams -- one in
most year groups, with two in first
year and senior year.
Most recent internationals include
Lawrence Docherty who has played
on the national team since 2000 and
Gordon Connell, who played from
1968 to 1970.
The school has strong links
throughout the world and while in
Canada, history and business
game ended with a 10-7 loss.
For game three they travelled to
Crediton #1. Pepper struck out 10.
The Brussels bats were on
vacation this night, causing the
squad to lose 14-3.
Game 4 was against Hibbert.
Bowles started on the mound with
six strikeouts and Pepper came in to
relieve with another six. At the plate
Semple and Josling smacked triples.
The final score was a win 22-3.
Game five was against Crediton
education classes are touring in the
United States, a languages class is
touring France and geography
classes are touring Morocco and The
Alps.
The Trinity Academy teams
arrived at Pearson International
Airport last Friday, and took a bus to
Brantford where they will stay for
three nights.
Trinity Academy played St. Johns
Collegiate last Sunday and played
Father Michael McGivney Catholic
Academy yesterday, Tuesday.
The Mustangs play Trinity
Academy on Saturday, beginning at
3 p.m. at the Madill field. The rugby
teams practise at 11 a.m., with the
girls having a field hockey practice
at 1 p.m. on the upper field at
Madill.
Following the game, dinner will
be held at the school cafeteria. On
Sunday, they will be going to the
beach at Kincardine.
#2 team. The Brussels squad had a
full team and scored most of their
runs in the first two innings.
On the mound Bowles had three
strikeouts and Pepper four. The final
score was a win 16-2.
Game six was against Listowel.
Brussels gave up six runs in the first
inning and came back to win 14-8.
Batters Cassie Fischer and Bowles
came up with big hits to clear the
bases and rev up a rally by the
Brussels squad.
Trinity College concludes their
tour with games against Earl Haig
on Monday and against the Ontario
Under 16 team on Wednesday.
They depart for Edinburgh on
June 27.
The Mustangs. begin planning in
September for their return trip to
England in the spring of 2004.

Game seven saw the team
travelling to Parkhill. Bowles started
on the mound with five strikeouts.
Pepper relieved with another four.
The game remained very close
until the final inning when hits by
Pepper, Jenna Fischer, Bernard,
Douma, Josling, Semple and Moffat,
locked the win for Brussels. The
final score was 14-4.
The next home game is Sunday,
June 23 at 8 p.m. against
Holmesville.

It sounded easy when the ref explained it, but these
students soon found it was nearly impossible to do. You just
have to rush in, grab the flag and get back to your side
before you're touched. Everyone tried it at the Hullett out-
