As the writer wrote of how she wept for the orchard because of memories, etc. I need to ask the question, if it meant that much to her why did she not purchase the orchard herself? The Maitside Orchard has been for sale for years and anybody had the opportunity to buy it. The writer wrote about how it had been in her family and of all the sentimental value the orchard holds. Continued from page 1 would also have received a call from the environment ministry. Lloyd Michie, who as the public works co-ordinator is responsible for Morris-Turnberry's two water systems in Belgrave confirmed that he also, had been contacted by the ministry on Wednesday. He said that the health unit had just finished taking a second set of samples from the Belgrave system and that they should have results before Monday. Michie added that he had no reason to expect any problems either with the raw or treated samples being tested. Both communities treat their water supplies according to the strict guidelines that have been in effect since the Walkerton tragedy. The chlorination times and levels used are sufficient to kill E. coli bacteria Continued from page 1 The other was a recommendation that "the Avon Maitland District School Board direct admin-istration to draft a policy on budget development and implementa- tion." According to Brown, policy committee chair, the recommendation inspired much discussion at the committee level after being brought forward by Smith. "It was trustee Smith who brought it forth, along with a number of Recently the slaughter house on the edge of town has been purchased and yes I myself have sentimental attachment there as it was part of my family's business and although it is not a slaughterhouse anymore I am quite pleased that somebody has found use for it. I am of the understanding that when you purchase a piece of property, house or business you can then do what you please with it. Yes, many things in life hold special meaning to many people but does that mean nothing can ever change? Everything in life if it should be present. Steffler said, "The problem as I understand it is the lab did a first test and when it was negative did not do other tests that the province says it should have." Michie indicated his understanding of the problem was similar. There appears to have been some disagreement between the lab and the ministry as to just what methodology was to be used. A spokeperson for MDS said, "We have a bit of confusion around this." Both Michie and Steffler emphasized that they do not believe there is a problem with the water in either community. Steffler said, "We have always been informed if there was a problem and I don't think anything has ever been held back from us." other possibilities, but this was the one that really stuck out for us," Brown commented. He added that part of such a new policy might be the mandated formation of an ad hoc committee of administration and trustees in the weeks prior to the development of the budget. That's something which is being done this year in accordance with a recent board resolution, and was expected to begin in the days following the meeting on June 11 . eventually changes. Last week we read of the municipal building going to be torn down and that itself is a piece of Brussels history. Eventually all good things must come to an end. I like to refer to it as the circle of life. The writer also spoke of weeping for the purchaser of the property for the greed of the almighty dollar. The purchaser of the property employs many families and maybe he is just creating new memories for his children and grandchildren. He is trying to make a living and giving many other people the chance of making a living as well. The memories you have of the orchard I hope you will always have and I hope you will always see the beautiful apple trees even though they are not there, just as I see Taffy and Cracker my pet horses outside of the slaughterhouse. Even though they're not there, they are where they should be, in my heart. Sincerel y, Chantelle denDekker. Congratulations to John and Nancy Vanass on the birth of their first grandchild, Ethan Jonas Scott, son of Prentice and -Jennifer Scott. Ethan is the great-grandson of Wilfred Strickler of Brussels. There will be a euchre party at the Cranbrook Hall this Friday, June 21 at 8 p.m. With our gratitude Blyth Fire Chief Paul Josling, right, accepts a cheque in gratitude for the department's assistance during the recent jamboree campout.
