THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 19, 2002; A NOTE FROM BETTY I really, really don't like shivering in June but I'll be darned if I'm going to put my mitts on — so I'll just have to keep moving. At this temperature the pretty flowers will be with us for a while but will the strawberries be here before July? At the Branch The Brussels Fire Department had a dandy crowd out for breakfast on Sunday and as usual it was good — maybe they could be encouraged to start a side business as the flaming cooks in their off hours. Thanks crew, you do our community proud. The next planning meeting for Kid's Corner is set for July 15. Call Yvonne Dettweiler or Jill Sholdice if you can help. Set aside Aug. 5 - 9 to invite your grandkids for holidays and we'll look after them in the afternoons with visions of shipwrecks and dreams. Registration forms are available for pickup at 5R's. Father's day was a chilly one outside but I'm sure all the family gatherings were filled with lots of warm food and love as they gathered to celebrate family. Year-end is coming, or here, depending on whether you are in public or high school and either way the excitement level is pretty high. Year-end activities are taking place and the graduation parties are in the planning and the nice long summer is a dream - ah the memories in the making. Enjoy the days. We're in a learning curve with the construction trade. It's really pretty neat watching others do their jobs. Digging holes, pouring gravel and cement in precise places is made to look so easy. Quite fascinating really.to watch a nice lawn turn into a clay hill. The potential completion of our project gives me hope. I can now attest that John and Paul really are good. Even I see an improvement. Agnes Ten Pas was celebrating life in the 60s last Monday with singing messages from her family from B.C., brunch with siblings and ice-cream with five ladies appropriately dressed for birthday afternoons. Don't forget Decoration Day at our beautiful cemetery and Ethel firefighters' breakfast next weekend. Bye now, Betty G. W. By Betty Graber Watson Call 887-6236 887-9231 Quiet week at the Legion By Jo-Ann McDonald It was pretty quiet around the Brussels Legion Branch this week. The Cadets, Beavers and dart nights are over. The ball tournament scheduled for last weekend was cancelled due to lack of teams. The Friday night supper of turkey was enjoyed by many. This week is Salisbury steak. Comrades Doreen Rutledge and Gordon Workman are still patients in Seaforth hospital. Our condolences to Comrade Gary Emmerson and wife Isabel on the passing of Gary's mother in British Columbia. Don't forget to save pop tabs and drop them into the Branch. The Ladies Auxiliary and Branch can use extra hands for a banquet WI meets with Bluevale The Majestic Women's Institute met with the Bluevale Women's Institute for their June meeting on June 12. There were nine members from Brussels and 10 from Bluevale in attendance. Bluevale WI ladies served lunch in the Bluevale Hall. Mrs. Peel, Bluevale WI president, presided over the opening exercises. Reports were read and a few items of business were discussed. Edna McLellan expressed Majestic's appreciation for the enjoyable lunch and meeting. The ladies then went to view the flower gardens at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Sanders. I will be unavailable for service as of June 18 until July 17. Retail available by chance.
