18 attend Evening Unit UCW

The June meeting of the Evening
Unit to Knox United Church was
held Tuesday evening, June 4 at the
home of Jane Grasby with 18 mem-
bers present.
Leader Lorna Cook welcomed
everyone and thanked the hostess.
She read a poem, What,is a pad?
Laura Johnston conducted the
The WMS held its meeting at the
home of Margaret Siertsema on
Monday, June 3 with their twinning
group, Whitechurch as guests.
Alice Nicholson gave a Call to
Worship and prayer. Freda Scott read
worship service. Father's Day was
her service theme. Freda Johnston
offered a memorial prayer. Faith of
Our Fathers was sung.
Psalm 102: 8-17 was read.
Laura's meditation expressed the
relationship between children with
their fathers.
She closed with a reading Fathers
scripture from Ruth and verses from
Matthew were read by Ivy Cloakey.
Happy the Home When God is
There was read in unison.
A meditation on the story. of Ruth
was read by Mrs. Nicholson. Roll
call was what I like about June.
Twenty-six shut-in and sick visits
were recorded.
Rev. Cathrine Campbell gave con-
gratulations on a great yard sale.

Mabel's Moms met at their regu-
lar time on Wednesday, June 5.
Those who attended were Linda
Hess and Judith; Sarah Caldwell and
Grace; Crystal Agombar, Nicholas
and Gage; Gage and Curtis Raynard,
Lila Procter and Jessica. Their topic
was children's sports.
Bill and Muriel Coultes attended
are Wonderful People. A donation of
$50 will 'go to the Children's Aid
Society of Huron County.
The over-80 birthday party will be
held Wednesday, July 10 at 2 p.m. in
the church basement. Members were
urged to give Laura names of new
over-80 birthday guests.
The September meeting will be at

shown. This told of the concern of
rising population and the effect on
animal' and birds' habitat. Many
species are being deprived of their
territory and may be extinct soon.

Euchre results
There were eight tables of euchre
in play on Wednesday, June 5 at the
Women's Institute Hall. Winners
were: high lady, Mabel Wheeler;
second high lady, Aileen Leddy;
lone hands, Lois Chamney; low
lady, Marilyn McClean; high man,
Allan Edgar; second high man, Joe
Spitzig; lone hands, Irlma Edgar;
low man, John Norman.
There will be no more euchres
until the autumn season.

Norma Moore presented a very
interesting program about Thomas
Kinkade a painter of beautiful pic-
tures. He uses areas of light to
emphasize happiness. He paints to
add joy for others.

The Belgrave Community Club
met June 7 at 1:30 p.m. The meeting
opened by all singing 0 Canada.
Happy Birthday and happy
anniversary were sung to the June
celebrants.
On Aug. 8 members will join
Blyth and travel to Petrolia to see a
play. Have money to Donna Shaw as
soon as possible.
The last shoot until fall will be
held on June 14. The next meeting
will be Sept. 6.
WLS can get
subsidy
Huron County council has approved
adding Walton's Little School to the
list of child care facilities in the
county where parents are eligible
for a child care subsidy.
At its June 6 meeting, council
approved a recommendation from
its social and cultural services com-
mittee that it enter into an agree-
ment with the Walton day care facil-
ity to provide subsidized service.
In the past two years, the commit-
tee reported, the number of subsi-
dized children in the county's day-
care facilities has dropped from 150
to 80. In 2001 only $350,000 was
spend on subsidies of $661,445 in
the program.
