Intern pastor at Christian Reformed Church
The ministry is actually a second
career for Kuperus, who now lives in
the manse with his wife Helen and
their children, Joshua, five; Brianna,
three; Nicole, two and Alisha, six
months. Born and raised on a dairy
farm, he owns a feed and pet store
which is now taken care of by his
parents and a manager.
With the church council having
provided clear direction on what
they are looking for from him,
Kuperus feels confident he can
provide the prayer and devotions, as
well as missions and stewardship
which have been requested.
Also, he plans to become
acquainted with the community, as
well as familiarizing himself with
the organization within the
church.
Planting roots
Pastor John Kuperas has taken an intern position with
Blyth Christian Reformed Church. He, along with his wife,
Helen and their four children: Nicole, Brianne, Joshua and
Alisha (not pictured) have moved into the manse and are
quite literally putting down roots in the community. (Bonnie

It was a lovely sunny Sunday for the annual Blyth Union

kind of key in drawing me there.
After that he completed a year at the
Calvin Theological Seminary in
Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The path to Blyth came, he says,
through the diligence of one
particular church member. Accepted
for summer internships at Blyth and
Kemptville, Kuperus says making
up his mind was helped by Ralph
deVries. "He was a good
communicator and efficient. I felt
this was where I was meant to go."
If both sides are interested his
final internship could also be
completed at Blyth CRC. After that
Kuperus will go before the Calvin
board and if approved, calls are
extended to him from churches.
His 10 weeks in Blyth, he says,
should be " a good feeler for both the
church and myself. They have the
option after that to not take the next
step."

For a time, at least, Blyth
Christian Reformed Church, has a
new minister at the pulpit.
Pastor John Kuperus has taken an
intern position with the church,
which began June 1. Not yet
ordained, Kuperus will need to
complete one more intern project at
the end of his Blyth contract Aug.
18.
From New Jersey, Kuperus and his
family have "been on quite a journey
since 1998." For one year he studied
in Israel because as a seminary
student he had to learn Hebrew. "1
thought what better place to learn
it."
He then spent two years at the
Fuller Theological Seminary in
Pasadena, California. "They have a
school of world mission that was
