Children's Support Worker
Contract Position
Rate of Pay: $17.00/hour
The worker will provide crisis intervention and short-term
counselling for children who are residents in the emergency
shelter. Will provide parental support and education for
women residing in the emergency shelter. Will foster positive
interactions between mothers and their children while
supervising the children's program. Will work effectively with
the residential team.
Successful candidates will possess:
• Social Sciences Bachelor Degree and appropriate
combination of training and experience focused on children
and child development. Training and experience in
individual counselling with child victim/witnesses of
woman abuse.
• Training and experience in the provision of advocacy for
child victim/witnesses of woman abuse.
• Relevant knowledge of political, social and economic issues
affecting women and children.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively handle crisis situations
both in person and by telephone.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in
writing.
• The ability to work in a women-centred organization that
bases its services on a feminist understanding of woman
abuse.
