They are challenging residents,
businesses and industry to fly the
Canadian flag. Prizes will be
awarded in a number of categories
and entry forms are available at
local merchants. The deadline for
entries is July 1.
It's not enough, however, to
simply fly the flag. There are rules
which have been published in a
booklet from Canadian Heritage.
Firstly, the flag must be displayed in
a manner that is worthy of the
national emblem. "It should not be
subjected to indignity or displayed
in a position inferior to any other
flag or ensign. When flown in
Canada the the national flag takes
precedence over all other national
flags."
Thus if the Canadian flag is
lowered to half-mast all others
should be as well.
The rules also state that the flag be
flown "aloft and free"
If hung vertically, flat against a
surface, the flag should be placed so
that the upper part of the leaf is to
the left and the stem is to the right as
colours.
Donna Moore and Deb Hakkers
presented the Sunday school
children with their certificates for
attendance and a treat. Donna gave
each of the volunteer teachers and
assistant a carnation for their help
during the year. Deb Hakkers
presented Donna Moore with a
retirement gift.
Rev. Bannerman's story to the
children was about the first teddy
bear which was named for Teddy
Roosevelt. He then played a CD,
Surrounded by teddy bears.
Ross Clark gave the Minute for
Missions. The gospel, Luke 10: 25-
37, was read by Val Pethick, an
auxiliary member.
Rev. Bannerman's message to the
adults was the story of the Good
Samaritan bears.
Everyone was invited downstairs
to join the Sunday school in a
potluck Teddy Bear Picnic.

The flag should never be used as a
table or seat cover or as a masking
for boxes, barriers or intervening
space between floor and ground
level on a dais or platform.
The flag may be flown by night as
well as by day.
