FROM BLYTH
In co-operation with Hydro One,
Communities In Bloom intends to
award three Hydro One Prizes
annually for a new category,
Entranceway Presentation. Bev
Elliot, chair of Blyth's Communities
in Bloom committee said that the
village's position as a national
champion means Blyth will
automatically be entered in the new
competition.
The awards are intended to help
promote the best in community
image making in Ontario. Ted
Blowes, national vice-chair and
Ontario co-chair commented on the
value of these first impressions. "A
community that cares about how it
looks can't help but be better off,"
he said, "and the entranceway is a
key component."

The idea came about because of a
series of photos taken by Neil
Freeman, of Hydro One during his
travels across the province.
Originally intended to be used in
business development presentations
they eventually resulted in the
partnership between the company
and Communities in Bloom.
The new competition was
announced at the annual conference
of the Organization of Small Urban
Municipalities. At that time the
company distributed a 10-page
booklet featuring examples of
municipal gateway signs.
Several attendees at the
conference noted that with the recent
wave of amalgamations new signs
may be more important than ever.

Last weekend about 60 members
of the Edgar family gathered on the
farm of Don Edgar on Browntown
Line for the annual Victoria Day
celebrations. The weather didn't co-
operate with them but a good time
was had by all. They gathered for
fireworks on Sunday night and some
camped and gathered together again
on Monday for games and
fellowship and as always delicious
food. They came from London,
Petrolia, Brigden, Tavistock,
Clinton, Goderich, Blyth, Wingham.
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, May 26 were Judy
Gleave and Irma Mason. Guest
musician was Margaret Kai. Rev.
Jack Patterson was guest minister.
Rev. Patterson's message to the
children was a story of sharing and
Edward, Ontario said, "there are
some new and creative municipal
names that need to be advertised.
Blyth's entrance signs are
currently being refurbished. The
municipality hopes they will be back
in place this week.
The first of these prizes will be
awarded this September when
Stratford hosts the provincial
Communities In Bloom ceremony.
helping others.
Readings were Psalm 8, II
Corinthians 13: 5-10 and Matthew
28: 16-20.
Rev. Patterson's message to the
adults was the story of the early
church being divided and that
churches down through the ages
have been flawed and broken.
Next Sunday is award Sunday for
the Sunday School. A potluck lunch
will follow the service.
A blood donor clinic is being held
on Thursday, May 30 at Central
Huron Secondary School, Clinton
