THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MAY 29, 2002. Slide into summer? lifeguards at the Brussels pool have been getting everything organized for the beginning of swimming lessons in June. She's been carousing in Ireland the past two weeks and has returned with some wonderful stories to tell. She's on a first-name basis with our Canadian Ambassador and has a new view on the Blarney Stone. We're glad you're back in Brussels Joan and are thrilled that you had such a good time. I'm the new proud keeper of an angel statue called Lucinda. It's one of those items you need to see to believe, but she's one of this world's treasures. Her card states-she's the guardian of mid-life women and holds a magic wand to help her in her duties. Mind you, it looks like a bubble blowing stick but it is so reassuring to know that there is a special angel called Lucinda whose main job is to keep this wor.derful group of humans in balance. London Conference of the United Church of Canada met this weekend in Brigden. Lots of celebrating, singing, reviewing and challenging went on at their fairgrounds. Over 600 were registered and the permanent buildings that are part of their community fairgrounds made it a good place to meet. The children and youth at the conference were excellent as they pushed us into the future seeing the world that needs so much care under the theme, Caring for God's Children. Ten new ministers were introduced at the Saturday night service which was attended by well over a thousand people. Buses from Goderich and Stratford brought family and friends of the three new ministers from Huron/Perth, Our area was well represented as we did the business of the church. Traffic jams were reported in the village on Saturday as lots of visitors made the rounds with their maps of the available garage sales. Sounds like everyone had a good time exchanging treasures. The Thrift Shop thanks you for giving us only the good leftovers. Take a drive in the country this week and really look at the scenery — the colour and growth are really awesome. Bye now, Betty G. W. Vandals destroy birdhouses On May 21 shortly after 9:30 p.m. OPP were contacted by a Cub leader in Brussels over vandalism. The leader told police that a group of youths age four to six years had built 15 birdhouses and put them into the park in Brussels. Sometime in the last week all the birdhouses were destroyed. Many cases of vandalism have occurred in Brussels over the last year and OPP are asking the public to help solve the crimes. Please call the OPP or Crime Stoppers with any tips. Check out The Citizen's WEBSITE at www.northhuron.on.ca Guild meets The May meeting of the Melville Guild was held in the church parlour on Tuesday, May 21 with nine members present. Eluned McNair and Isabel Gibson were in charge of the devotions. Mrs. McNair opened the meeting with a reading In May. For the Beauty of the Earth was sung. Mrs. Gibson read a poem, Room in Her Heart. The scripture, Mark 4: 13-20 was read in unison, followed by prayer. Mrs. McNair read the topic, May. Fairest Lord Jesus was sung and the Mizpah Benediction was repeated by all. The president, Leona Armstrong presided over the business. She gave a reading entitled Weeds. She thanked Mrs. Gibson and Mrs. McNair for their part in the meeting, and everyone for helping with the springtime supper and the funerals. The correspondence included thank you cards from Jeanne Ireland, Kathleen Semple and the Verbeek family. The president reported on the Thankoffering envelopes and Jean Bewley gave the treasurer's report. The roll call was answered by everyone telling something of interest about their mother. Alice Marks and Cathrine Campbell offered to be in charge of the June meeting. A Note of Feelings to my children & friends, etc. As I get older I notice a lot of sick elderly men and women, some I know personally, some I don't. But a while ago I met a lady in the hospital. My husband and I knew her quite well as a sweet, gentle, kind, quiet, very friendly and intelligent person. I used to call her an angel. She had become quite sick and was yelling and screaming at the nurses and telling her family and friends to go home and get away from her, she didn't want to see them and she didn't love them or like them anymore - "Get out she shouted". My eyes filled with tears and as soon as i got home I wrote this — not a poem, no fantastic words — just how I feel in my heart "Children" No one in this world knows how dear you are to me except our "Higher Power". I can only hope that one day if I am sick and you or my friends come to see me that you would understand me! "Please" my lips may be moving but my heart will only be saying, I love you and if you can stay awhile please do, but I also know you have families and you must have a life of your own. "Please" if I am extremely hard to deal with take it with a grain of salt — my mind has been played with by many and my memories have escaped me. Please God let them understand for we know not what we sayl Love Mom X0X0 (Helen Brenie) P.S. Cathy C.1 finally did it!
