Bluewater Recycling
wins Platinum award
The effort of residents serviced by
the Bluewater Recycling
Association has resulted in an
unmatched achievement.
For the fourth year in a row the
Association has been awarded the
Platinum Award, the Recycling
Council of Ontario's highest honour
in the category of municipal
achievement.
This award recognizes
municipalities, regional govern=
ments and groups of municipalities
that divert a significant percentage
of municipal waste from disposal
(landfill or incineration).
Both historic improvement in
waste minimization performance
over the past three years and overall
performance in the year 2001,
(measured in kg. of waste dispose
per capita) were also considered.
The Association continues to be the
only recipient of this award.
The Bluewater Recycling
Association was also bestowed the
honour of Outstanding Waste
Diversion Program Operator. These
accomplishments were recently
recognized by the Recycling
Council of Ontario at their annual
Waste Minimization Awards
presentation held on April 25 in St.
Catharines.
On hand to accept the award on
behalf of the Bluewater Recycling
Association membership was
Meredith Schneider, chairman of the
board of directors of the Association
and councillor for the ToWn of
North Perth.
The highlight of the awards night
for Schneider was accepting the
award for Best Waste Diversion
Program Operator on behalf of the
membership from Richard Karn,
known as "Al" from the TV series
Home. hnprovement. -
The Bluewater Recycling
Association is one of the largest
multi-municipality resource
management organization in
Canada, which provides integrated
waste reduction and environmental
services ranging from collection and
processing to marketing superior
quality products and services.
The overall success of the
Association in diverting waste from
local landfills, is due in large part to
the efforts of the over 71,000 people
in municipalities serviced by the
Association's unique and innovate
co-collection program, where waste
and recyclables are collected
simultaneously using a specially
designed vehicle.
