Brussels Livestoc k report
426 steers on offer with sales to $123
Total receipts for the Brussels
Livestock for the week ending May
3 were 2,868 head of cattle,' 969
lambs and goats.
On Tuesday the fed steers and
heifers sold $2 higher with the cows
selling on a steady trade. On
Thursday veal sold on a strong
active trade at prices $2 to $3 higher.
The light lambs also sold on a strong
market while the heavier lambs sold
at priceS steady to last week.
On Friday all weights and classes
of stockers sold on a strong market at
prices $2 to $3 higher.
There were 426 steers on offer
selling from $104 to $108 with sales
to $123. Cunningham Farms, Lucan,
consigned one black steer weighing
1,370 lbs. which sold to Norwich

On May 4 the 4-H Chinchilla Club
met for its last meeting this year, the
final show and auction of the
chinchillas that the 4-Hers had
purchased earlier on in the year.
Although it started at 10 a.m. the
4-Hers arrived around an hour early
to prepare their chinchillas. At the
start of the show, Barb Storey
welcomed all present and introduced
the substitute judges, Ray Storey and
Jack Wilkins. •
The chinchillas had been
previously divided into four classes.
These classes were then judged. The
winners of. each class were then
judged to decide on the show
champion and reserve champion.
The Huron County Chinchilla 4-H
Champion of 2002 was Jordan
Reddick and Reserve Champion was
Matt Wilkins.
Following the show, the
chinchillas were auctioned off to:
Ray Storey, Jack Wilkins, Walton
Packers for $123. Their overall
offering of thirty-eight steers
averaged 1,507 lbs. selling for an
average of $106.04. One blonde
steer consigned by Emerson L.
Martin, Linwood, weighed 1,250
lbs. selling for-S122.50. His overall
offering of eleven steers averaged
1.297 lbs. selling for an average of
$112.29. Perry Sereda, Centralia,
consigned sixty-two steers averaging
1,431 lbs. selling for an average of
$109.85 with his top two limousin
steers averaging 1,365 lbs. selling to
Norwich Packers for $122.
There were 290 heifers on offer
selling from $104 to $108 with sales
to 1124.75. . Rockx Farms,
Tillsonburg, consigned one limousin
heifer weighing 1,340 lbs. selling to
Inn, Jeff Lewington, McGavin Farm
Equipment, Gerald Golem, Graeme
Craig Ins., Audrey Stewart,
Norwich Packers for $124.75. Their
overall offering of forty-four heifers
averaged 1,373 lbs. selling for an
average of $110.21.. Two blonde
heifers consigned by Allan Lewis,
Ailsa Craig, averaged 1,185 lbs.
which were purchased by Norwich
Packers for $114.75. .His overall
offering of forty-one heifers
averaged 1,342 lbs. selling for an
average price of $106.64. Andy
VanderVeen, Blyth, consigned one
Limousin heifer weighing 1,240 lbs.
which sold to Highland Packers Ltd.,
for $114. His overall offering of six
heifers averaged 1,283 lbs. selling
for an average of $107.47.
There were 225 cows on offer. DI
and D2 cows sold $65 to $75 with
sales to $79;D3, $60 to $65; D4, $50
Lucknow Co-op, Linda Kovas,
McKillop Mutual Ins., Tim McNee
and Dan Kerr.

consigned one charolais cow
weighing 1,670 lbs. which sold to
Packerland Packing Co. for $76. His
overall consignment of ten cows
averaged 1,354 lbs. selling for an
average of $65.77. One black cow
consigned by Norman E. Kuntz,
Clifford, weighed 1,570 lbs. which
sold to Packerland Co. for $74.50.
His overall offering of four cows
averaged 1,540 lbs. selling for an
average of $70.31. Eddie Kennie,
Mitchell; consigned three red cows
averaging 1,502 lbs. selling for an
average of $70.33 with sales up to
$74.50.
There were nine bulls on offer
selling from $65 to $75 with sales to
$79. One holstein bull consigned by
Ian Mayberry, Listowel, weighed
1,400 lbs. which sold for $79. Larry
Albrecht, Newton, consigned one
holstein bull weighing 1,935 lbs.
which was purchased by Aylmer
Meat Packers for $74.
There were 142 head of veal on
offer. Beef sold $100 to. $118;
Holstein, $85 to $94 with sares to
$98; Plain Holstein, $65 to $80.
Frank Meulensteen, Atwood,
consigned one red veal steer
weighing 680 lbs. which sold to
Abingdon Meat Packers for $118
and one red BF veal heifer weighing
670 lbs. which sold to Norval Meat
Packers for $112.50.
One BWF veal steer weighing 570
lbs. consigned by Peter Feagan,
Goderich, sold to Millgrove Meat
Packers for $104. His overall
consignment of three veal averaged
572 lbs. for an average of $101.85.
Merdell Dairy Farms, Newton,
consigned four holstein veal steers
averaging 674 lbs. selling to
Abingdon Meat Packers for $94.
Lambs, under 50 lbs. sold $120 to
$176; 50 - 64 lbs., $125 to/$195; 65
- 79 lbs., $129 to $136; 80 - 94 lbs.,
$97 to $133; 95 - 109 lbs., $90 to
$128; 110 lbs. and over, $120.
Goats sold $25 to $190.
Sheep sold $30 to $75.
Stocker steers under 400 lbs., sold
$103 to $160; 400 - 499 lbs., $130 to
$163; 500 - 599 lbs., $117.50 to
$166; 600 - 699 lbs., $112 to $158;
700 - 799 lbs., $117.50 to $136; 800
- 899 lbs., $109.50 to $126; 900 -
999 lbs., $102 to $126; 1,000 lbs.
and over, $101 to $111.
Heifers, under 300 lbs., sold to
$141; 300 -399 lbs., $111 to $136;
400 - 499 lbs., $114 to $135; 500 -

It looks like the auctioneer's a sistant would like to be taking home this chinchilla for herself.
