Congregants observe Camping Sunday The congregation at Londesboro United Church observed National Campirig Sunday on May 5 , with an emphasis on the closest United Church supported camp, Camp Menesetung. For the next several weeks Canadian Tire money can be placed on the. offering plates to be used to buy supplies for the general running of the camp. Barbara Hicks of Clinton has been the director of Camp Menesetung for 20 years and her nickname -is Spoony. Her message is that God's love never hurts; it is like a spoon which picks one up and cradles them in the hollow. This is unlike,a knife which cuts or a fork which jabs. In Rev. Paul Ross's storybag the children 'found a large wooden spoon. The camp theme for 2002 is PEOPLE AROUND LONDESBORO Hopefully reading this column is not your first reminder that this Sunday is Mother's Day. Although there can be any number of moments along the way that make being a mother special, it brings a warm and fuzzy feeling to be remembered on that one day each year. Spring in Nothing revives the soul like spring in the air and music. This spring, pupils at Hullett Central Public School are experiencing music in a variety of ways with the help of teacher, Susan Wyatt. Musician, Julie Kryk, performed for them on Monday, April 8. On Tuesday, April 16, Grades 4 - 8 attended the symphony, Rhythm In Your Rubbish, in Kitchener- Waterloo. All classes will take part in a music workshop under the leadership of Richard Glasser of Goderich on May 28. During the hour each class will spend with Building Youth Pillars. By helping young people grow- in their faith at camp, these young folk will return to their communities and churches and be pillars and leaders. Matthew 16: 13-20 was a verification of Peter's role as the first leader, or pillar, of the early Christian' church. Rev. Ross, as- a radio talk show host, interviewed Barb Knox, the chairperson of the board of directors for Camp Menesetung. During this most informative interview, Barb spoke about the camping experience in general, staffing, the facility itself and its current upgrading, and how individuals can help. Ms Knox finished the interview with a poem, Jesus, a Camper. During a commercial break, Michael Radford invited the Mothers. are like snowflakes, no two are exactly 'alike. However, a little book my son gave me at Christmas pointed out that mothers the world over have one thing in common. Anna Tocher'S book. Just listen to your mother in these little gems: — "I didn't hear the magic word ..." — "Where you have been 'till this time of night?" — "So, you couldn't have telephoned?" — "Don't take that tone of voice with me, young lady/man." 7 "Honestly, it all goes in one ear and out the other." Richard, the pupils will enjoy music activities. He will also work with the band and choirs. Then at 7 p.m. that evening there will be a performance for the public by the band and choirs. And, what would spring be without a school concert? The students of Grade 6, 7 and 8 will present a musical version of Tom Sawyer on Wednesday, May 15 at 7 p.m. Mark your calendars now so you don't miss this entertaining evening. This week the pupils of Grades 3 and 6 begin their Education Quality and Accountability tests set out by congregation to meet next Sunday, Family Sunday, following the service for "coffee and conversation for cash". The Church's Outreach Team has decided their project for 2002 is the sponsorship of a family for a week at Camp Menesetung's Single Parent Camp. This social time will allow church members to assist with this outreach. Meanwhile, downstairs the Sunday school also had visitors. They began their time together with a game which pointed out the importance of working together as a team. This was followed by a short history of the congregations which have come together over the years to form the present day Londesboro United Church. Then Helen Lee and Gail Lear shared with the children stories of Both Jack Snell and Reg Lawson are in Clinton Public Hospital at time Of reporting. Your concern and support for these gentlemen will certainly be appreciated. Visiting with Frank and Dorothy Johnston this past weekend were Dorothy's sister and her husband, Ken and Dale Weber from South River, Ontario. The Webers were the Northern Ontario euchre champions in an all- Ontario tournament organized by the Legion. They competed Saturday afternoon in Exeter in a tournament which had 53 tables of euchre players from across Ontario. The winners from Saturday compete next for the Canadian championship. the Uovernment of Ontario. I hese tests, administered by each school's own teachers will be worked at on May 7, 8, 9, 16 and 17. The virtue at Hullett school this week is modesty. Lillian Hellman states, "I can not and will not cut my conscience to fit this year's fashion. what Sunday school was like when they were children in the congregation. Teachers and children alike were entertained by stories- about coining to church by horse and cutter; Christmas pageants, and Sunday music. The ladies told how the Sunday School room has changed and showed certificates and books used over the years. Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Lear were thanked for their gift of time to the Sunday school. The floral tributes on the memorial stands were placed by the family the late Mary Trick. The church and community prays God will give her family the courage, strength and faith to sustain them during this time of sorrow. The senior choir sang the familiar hymn, it is No Secret, as the morning anthem. Rev. Ross read the Banns of Marriage for the second week for Richard Murray Cook and Jennifer Brenda Konarski. The confirmation class will meet at Knox United Church in Auburn on Thursday, May 9 at 5:30 p.m. The session, board of stewards-and official board are called to meet on Tuesday, May 14 at 7:30 p.m. By BRENDA RADFORD Call 523-4296 • air at Hullett CPS
